some one backed into me, , it got fixed however. the guy claimed my car was too low and couldnt see it in his rear view.
(which, i guess is the excuse people give when hitting these cars, haha)
he gave me money for the damage, i didnt go through my insurance company.
there is no paint damage, or any damage to the bumper shocks, lucky. the dent is acutally kind of big, its the whole back quarter pannel on the passenger side of the car. the part in the hatch where the rug lifts and theres a compartment for the porsche-compressor that came with my car(come with anyone else's car?), that entire compartment is squished in.

i got it back today and was wondering about what the body shop said to me. when they were showing me what they did, i asked if it was difficult at all to fix, etc. they showed me where they banged it back out, and the interesting part was, i just asked if those marks on the inside of the compartment were from him banging it out, he said no, and that some one else did a terrible job last time when they fixed it. so i asked what did he mean. and he said that it had been through this same thing a while back and the guy who fixed it, used a black hammer and left marks on the inside of the body.

now.
im curious, what else has my baby been though???(i am well aware that most of you probably dont know), but is there a way that i can find out? could it have been wrecked and then fixed up again? and if this is true, could there be any other structural damage that i dont know about?

well thats my question. a long one at that. thanks for reading, any info would be great.

Your best bet was to ask the body shop to inspect the car for previous damage/repairs/paint. Most body shops will gladly "comment" on someone else's work as you found out.

If your car isn't too old, you could pull a carfax report and see what it says (although carfax will generally only pick up on major damage).

also if you don't go through insurance then it wont be listed so if it happened before and they never went through insurance then chances are you wont be able to find it

i do not know about other states. but in va if it is total and you buy it back for the ins with out the title changeing hands " most of the time" then it will not show up and car fix or consumer guide auto check. and if im right car fax and the others only go back to like 82 or 83 i do not remember.

email me and i can run a check for you.

A while ago a member done a Car Fax report for me on my 81 Turbo. If the car has a long VIN number it can be done.
