I am trying to diagnose why my battery keeps draining when the car is off and I am going to be pulling fuses. I have seen it some where but I can't seem to find what each of the 15 fuses controls. Does any body know off hand? What should the voltometer read when there is no drain on the battery? _________________ '82 931

its different for each car model year, for what each fuse controls. but you should be using an ampmetre for testing what the drain is. and the drain should be less than 10 milliamp's if things are working properly. in my car the battery was being drained becuase one of the relays solenoids was being activated, combined with a weak battery from being drained to many times, I was getting 180 milliamps before I took out that relay. then it dropped to about 8 milliamps with the relay out.

applebit has a good diagram on his website. I cannot seem to find the url. He hasn`t posted in a while. Anyone have a link to his site?
Hey Min., which relay was it ?---that you pulled?
Don`t forget, even with the key off, the alternator can cause a drain also.
It`s been years since I`ve seen something like that though. |

fan relay, pulled it out, found out it was cuasing the problem, switched the wires on the relay, and now it works properly.
it didn't look mangled or anything ... didn't look like anyone had touched it before me, but who knows. it works as its supposed to now.

the function of the "main" fuses in the relay block are listed in Haynes, the fuses in the second fuse block are not. You have to crawl thru the wiring diagram for your year to determine the functions for the second fuse block. _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)

oops, misinformation alert. The fuse functions are not listed in the US-printed Haynes which is probably what you have. They are listed in the hard-cover UK-printed edition and are:
1. Headlight - dipped (left)
2. Headlight - dipped (right)
3. Headlight - high beam (left)
4. Headlight - high beam (right)
5. Additional headlights (?)
6. Interior light, retractable headlights
7. Emergency flashers
8. Backup lights, horn
9. Direction indicators, brake warning light
10. Fresh air blower
11. Windshield wipers
12. Luggage compartment light, licence plate lights
13. Side marker light (right)
14. Side marker light (left)
15. Fan (radiator)
I'd suggest confirming these with the wiring diagram before you jump to a conclusion about the function of a particular fuse.

Sure, some of the relays and fuses will differ with installed equipment, but for the "basics", aren't they all listed in your owner's manual? Should be. _________________ '79 Eurospec 931 |

and on the second fuse box:
1. Horn
2. Fuel pump
3. Radiator fan
4. Rear window heater
5. Aircon condensor fan (possibly)
6. Aircon compressor fan (possibly)
8. Power windows.
Once again, check your wiring diagram to be sure. _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)
