Hi,
I have a 924 with a good drive train and a 944 shell that is perfect, I want to know if anyone has done the swap before?
I looked under both, and it does seem that I can unbolt it and swap it over?
But I'm asking as ChatGPT says its not a straight forward swap. |

They are very similar (assuming you have the audi gearbox), though the 944 have a different subframe with engine mounts, and the 924 mounts to the chassis rails, so you need to weld supports for the engine mounts. Then there are small stuff like fuel lines which are different, im not sure the 944 fuel pump is up to the task either (with kjet). Then of course the wiring, which is very different. The radiatior is different but should be fairly easy to adapt with some new hoses. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

I forgot to mention, engine wise Im going with an Audi 1.8T conversion, so my focus is more on the rear suspension and transaxle mount. Front the 944 has the Alu subframe but the 924 control arms do bolt right up to that, but I'm still unsure if I would even use them and just build custom ones. The Alu Subframe is a bonus for my engine swap atleast.
Fuel lines, pump and wiring is also not a worry as it will probable be replaced and upgraded to feed the Audi engine. Aiming at around 300hp. |

| You have to keep in mind that half shafts are different lengths between cars with steel rear trailing arms and ones made of aluminum. Most models of 924 have steel ones like the 1982-1985.5 944 while the 944 from 1986 on up have aluminum and those require the longer shafts. The only 924 that had aluminum rear trailing arms from the factory was the 1987 and 1988 924S. |

Awesome, I have seen that my 924 has Aluminium Rear trailing arms, but I did think the Half shafts will have to be replaced then, so that is confirmed atleast, that is not a big deal. As long as the holes line up, I'm happy |
