Beartooth wrote: | This is a really elegant way to implement EFI - great idea, and I hope it works out to a great product! One suggestion, if I may: did you consider modifying the existing fuel distributor rather than building a new piece? It'd be one less piece, and more of a nod to looking like it's original. Maybe there's even a way incorporate the fuel pressure regulator without getting crazy. Just a thought; I'm interested to see how this turns out! |
Thanks.
This was my initial idea. While it may be possible to get the plunger to stay maxed out, it would be difficult to convert from whatever fuel pressures would then reach the injectors to the required 3bar.
Even so, while it may be doable for me or someone with extensive knowledge of the cis, its certainly too much to ask for most 924 owners.
Add to that the fact that most distributors out there are different (market differences) and most distributors have issues with flow inequality and its quickly going to be obvious why i chose to do a replica instead of modding the oem disteibutor.
Its impossible to get all the different ones out there to perform the same, its too much to ask for most guys out there. And it is less bolt-on and more modding.
I’m going to do my best to keep the appeareance of the old distributor. _________________ https://www.the924.com |

Morghen, I love this idea.
It's only EFI, no spark?
Spark/timing control would be needed for FI applications ... _________________ '81 Porsche 924 NA

Also spark, the complete engine management.
Almost done with the mechanical parts design.
Prototyped some of the parts and test fitted.
Just a couple small things left and i’m ready to order the parts for the first kit.
This will go on my car and will be the test mule and development for the settings and maps that will come standard with the kit. _________________ https://www.the924.com |

And then one can intercool the SC kit, and it will make complete sense for us here in Oz! _________________ '81 Porsche 924 NA

I've worked on an air-to-air system but its a lot of effort to implement.
Cant be made bolt on.
Instead, i also designed and tested a water-alcohol injection system that seems to work great...that can be bolt on and not complicate things. _________________ https://www.the924.com |

No issue whatsoever, if anything it motivates me to finish it.
Mechanical parts like brackets, adaptors, housings and such are 99% finished.
Meaning 3d printed prototypes are fitted and tested for assembly.
Drawings for all those parts are also pretty much ready so i could already order them.
All sensors defined and i have two sets, one for my mockup engine and one for my own car.
I’m about to finish the TPS conversion tutorial and publish it.
After that its wiring harness design and software.
So i’d say i’m a couple of months of work away but i wont be able to finish in the next two months as my car is still at the body shop waiting to be painted.
I have another 924 that i could use as a lab rat and i may do that starting with next month.
So best case scenario i can have the EFI kit ready around Christmas.
Worst case next year spring..and realistic case is likely around the new year’s eve as i’ll have more free time then. _________________ https://www.the924.com |

Ordered the first injector adapters in metal today.
Also ordered the fuel block.
Need to get off my a$$ and organize the sheet metal brackets drawings and order them all at once.
Aiming to record and publish the TPS conversion video for the Audi TB this weekend. _________________ https://www.the924.com |

Quick update, test fitted the IAT adapter plate today and took some pictures of the injector adapters and brackets prototypes test fitted on my engine.
Like i said, no fuel rail, keep the CIS look, i designed a set of adapter components that will allow us to keep the old fuel lines and the CIS look but actually run a modern injection and ignition system.

Awesome job, keep it up!!!
Really like that IAT install for the NA motor. For my turbo, I just welded a bung on one of the new IC pipes... but this would be easier for NA for sure. _________________ Vaughan Scott

Cool... I'm wondering, though, if the lower parts, that screw into the head, might be better off in some form of plastic? Seeing as how the factory did so, in both versions, even the screw-in 931 style... perhaps because of the need to seal the joint, vs. metal-on-metal...
Just a thought... _________________ Vaughan Scott
