I just received what is supposed to be a nos welmeister chip for $219.99 off of ebay. These retailed for $399.99 last time they were sold. I understand company does not exist any more. I thought I got a good deal. Chip says Weltmeister but paperwork looks old, says 1999 and say Proformance on it. I am wondering if this is a clone chip. Weird paperwork does not say Weltmeister. Any thoughts? Should I put it in my car along with the BMC filter or did I get ripped off and return item for refund. Ger.

Years ago I had a 1988 944 NA. I bought a performance chip--I think it was through Performance Products, I believe they sold the Weltmeister products. Truthfully I could barely tell a difference.

I found that the "throttle cam" made bigger difference in terms of throttle response, see: https://www.only944.com/partscatalog/only/throttleresponsecam/

Returning to the discussion about the performance chip.

Is this the one you bought?

This Ebay auction https://www.ebay.com/itm/165117335839?hash=item2671c2991f:g:glIAAOSw5blhYJAw

lists the part number as TC-5700 for the 944 and 924S from 85.5 - 87. The 1988 model took a different chip.

This document indicates that the TC-8300 is for a 944S (16 valve) - SEE PAGE 2

Based on these findings, I'm not sure that the chip you bought will work in your car. But that's just from me googling around out of curiosity. That document indicate a TC-5800 is the one for a 88 924S or 88 944. The 1988 models had slightly more power...I think 160HP.

Since the 924S has the same engine as the 944, another place to check is on the pelican parts BBS. I'm sure you'll find many posts over there regarding chips.

Good luck.
