Good Afternoon All,

Roughly a week ago, I noticed when slightly turning my wheel to the right or left, my steering wheel would shake relatively hard until I was either taking a hard turn or I was going completely straight. Basically, the steering wheel would shake when I would take slight curves. I saw in other topics and forums to check my tires for flat spots, make sure my wheels spin freely (wheel bearing issue) and to see if there is any play in the steering rack.

The tires are fine and still have tread life and my wheels spin freely so I do not think I have any wheel bearing issues. I put my car on the jack and moved the wheels back and forth to simulate steering and noticed slight play and shaking when doing so. I attached a picture of what looks like a steering component near my tie rod with a worn rubber bit. I am I would say 5/10 mechanically inclined and can do most repairs on my own once I know the names of the parts and a general idea as to how they work.

Would someone be able to tell me if they believe replacing whatever this is will fix my problem? I am also happy to answer any questions you may have that will help you better understand my problem. I have a 1987 Porsche 924s 2.5 N/A and have never goofed with the steering rack/components other than replace the power steering pump last year.

Thanks!

The links doesn't work, but I would guess the issue is in tie rods or ball joints or loose bearings (to much play). The bearings might be an adjustment issue.

I still don't know how to do links on this forum. I tried to have the image urls formatted in the way the forum suggests with [img] on either side. The links work for me when I click on them but maybe that is because I am the poster?

I looked up ball joints and that is exactly what appears to be damaged in my picture.

what wheels are you running? aftermarket wheels can cause stuff like this if they arent hub centric. or anything that can cause rapid toe changes to occur, check all your bushings and joints.
