So remember the motor I have been looking at so I can quickly use temporarily for the summer? The one with the mystery bits in the oil pick up. The one with 'one' incorrect valve seal that they bent to try and make it fit the guide....

Well this is how the shop put in new valve guides.

They punched the guide surface to control interference fit to the head

Is there a large head slapping emoji to insert here. My wife always asks me why I do everything myself. Well, that's easy. Its for things like this. I am not even pointing out the extra machining they did in the valve seal area. Ok I just did. Not sure why they machined it down farther? So the spring bearing could dance around? Sorry for the poor pic

OMFG what idiots.

Stuff like this is exactly why I'm always so skeptical when someone talks about buying a rebuilt motor etc...

+1 Whenever I see the word "rebuilt" in a description, I just substitute it with "fubar."

Good thing you have the ability to fix things correctly Mike.

Not sure if you guys saw the Valve Seals from this one. One valve seal was brown while the rest green. Fine, I don't care about the color of the viton, but the brown one was the wrong size. So they bent over the edges to try to get it to grab the valve guide? Why they also machined down all the guides farther than the valve seal seat I just don't know. At least this came from a junk parts car I picked up as an "extra" car during the purchase of a running 931
