I'm looking to start working a new motor for the track car. Newman and Piper in the UK will make cams in the close to appropriate duration range of 280 to 290 degrees. I know nothing about either company and would be interested to know about the quality of their products. _________________ Mike

Both are rated and used in a lot of cars here. Theres Kent Cams too. Been running a Piper since 2013. A 270 as any more than that has too much overlap for the turbo. Initially used a Piper vernier pulley but swapped out to a Mittelmotor version as it looked more period to the car in my view
I know others have Newman who will grind to any profile you want. _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

Piper cams have been used in the 924 series here in UK for donkeys years with great reliability. As Steve says Newman will make a cam of your choice as they use piper blanks.
Also have a word with Stateside VW here in UK as they have done cams in the past |

Thanks for the info. I don't have skype setup on this computer yet and I'm not ready to call anyone either. I'll be talking to several of the motor builders this next weekend. One thing that concerns me is that per internet Newman is significantly less expensive than Piper, also they seem to recommend very soft springs, in the 180 lbf range when open which is less than stock of about 225-230lbf. Is it possible they are not hardened as much? Piper hasn't gotten back on the recommended springs but I looked at their Pinto race and Cosworth springs and they are running in the 275-300lb/in range which is more common here for performance springs. _________________ Mike
