So it begins... I have already figured out this will be the 'wrong way' to do this (The Non-CarreraRSR way) even though I agree there is a convenient seam near the fender. This is just the way we get these 951 front ends in the States unless we remove them ourselves. It simply means more care and labor to do it right. First, color coordinate you drill and begin...

Yep, looks like a 951 FMIC install and he has a 951 nose to graph in.
Good choice and good luck! Your car is going to love you.

While you are in there could you take a look at how those vertical divider things under the 931 nose are attached with the thought of possibly getting them out of the way without pulling the nose panel?

The car needs paint so I figured it should at least have the 'option'

I'll document like crazy and also take close ups of the dividers

I know one thing, be prepared to drill a lot of holes whether you want to or not

The '44 donor is being picked apart right now. Lots of holes and careful grinding of some welds

Will say yet again, if I ever do this on another car, it will be the "all the way to fenders" install (CarreraRSR) but it requires a trip to junkyard to remove original properly. I can see a future of some interesting fitting in a couple of spots for the top panel. Not worried about my skill set, just annoyed because there is a cleaner way.

I have been maximizing my time on multiple projects so this is 'homework'. Which is so nice now since I just upgraded my lighting throughout the garage to LED's. That took a while because they are in ceiling spot/flood 'discs'...all 12 of them. Worth it though

Tip #1: Just keep drilling because there will always be another spot-weld, either on the car or your donor part

Easier part is essentially ready. Need to finish the on-car disassembly which so far I have been very careful to take my time in hopes of saving the clip 'just in case' any other car might need it. Can't go crazy on the cuts there like I did on the throw away sections of the 951 clip

Crazy amount of spot welds.

You need different tools to get everywhere. My Dremel was smoking internally and very hot. Duty Cycle is kind of high for this job

This tool is just about mandatory. It really helped with some of the previous steps. There is also the previously shown drill and a 90 degree cutoff wheel tool I am not showing

And here are the parts awaiting mounting. Still needs some prep though before that happens

I'm curious, Dan is this the car that donated the black interior to Woody?

No, this one has/had a brown interior. I'm trying (and failing at the moment) to remember where that interior came from that I put into Woody.

Bingo! Here's the answer (from this thread)!

Progress. Took me the better part of three days to swap in the black interior, including leather sport seats I acquired from the same guy that fasteddie bought his 931 from in Alpena MI.

There was a guy in Alpena MI who taught automotive tech at the local community college. He had a couple of 931s, one of which he sold to fasteddie. The other was an 82 that he was parting out, and I scavenged a bunch of good bits from that car, including the hood, badge panel, all black interior with early sport seats, and probably a bunch of other stuff I'm now forgetting. Ironically, that car was indeed red like the subject of this thread, as well as "DUSTY", the donor car that became the Holbert Super Wide (also with all black early sport seat and script door cards).

Sorry for the hi-jacking, what happen to this car Dan. Do you still have it? Did it see the road?
Maybe we should move this discussion somewhere else, but I'm very curious to know what happen to this one as the build was impressive and it looked awesome.

I sold the Holbert Super Wide to a 924/944 enthusiast in the Dallas area. He doesn't come here (to the forum) often. It was incomplete. This guy has the wherewithal to complete the project, so it was a good home for it.
