|
|
I have a head recently removed from the car with a burnt exhaust valve. Otherwise looks to be in very good shape.
I have another valvetrain/cam/etc (completely disassembled) that I won't be using due to some cracking of that head casting.
Is it feasible to replace the burnt exhaust valve with one from the other head?
Just pop a new valve in place and grind the seat, or is there more required for a reasonable job. Thinking of valve seals and buckets here ....
Note: I would likely get the head skimmed prior to replacing the valve. _________________ '81 Porsche 924 NA

Used valve should be fine, no need to replace the bucket since it is already worn into the cam. I always replace valve seals when the springs are off. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

Thanks Paul, that makes sense. I'll grab a full gasket kit with the valve seals in it so I am ready to go once putting the engine together. _________________ '81 Porsche 924 NA

Check all the old exhaust valves for wear on stem,a sort of brownish area, many times a wear edge felt with fingernail. Obviously use the best one. Also check the valve guides for wear by wobbling valve. Guides are cheap and easy to replace by any head repair shop. _________________ Mike

Thanks MikeJinCo. Good advice. I am planning to get the machine shop to clean and skim the head, and do the rest myself.
I recently had them do a full head rebuild, and it wasn't cheap and I worked out most of it I could have done myself. _________________ '81 Porsche 924 NA
