I want to replace my thermo time switch. This is presenting me with two problems:
1) Where can I buy the correct switch?
I bought what I believed to be the correct switch but received this:
Part number: F026T03100
Will this work? I think there might not be enough room?
2) Can this be replaced with the motor in place? |

What is the correct number of the thermo time switch you need?
I can have a look if I have one laying around.
But this one won't fit, it will hit the firewall.
They can be replace with the engine in place I heard, but it will be a struggle…
Create as much room as possible (lifting the engine a little up, or push it forwards, remove cables and hoses etc.) _________________ 911SC - 1980 |

It may hit the bell housing, not the firewall. May be easier to remove the housing than the TTS on its own. It will be tight and you won't get a spanner or socket on it. _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

IIRC Porsche ran a new batch in ~2016 that went into the classicshop, part number 928 605 101 02
On display in Canada: http://porscheaccessories.ca/classic/924/thermal-timer-switch/2267
Try the Porsche Parts Counter local to you with this info

Hardly.
Loosen gearbox and engine brackets. Slightly tilt the engine towards the drivers side and get your left arm in behind the engines head from the exhaust side/passengerside. Remove the Spark Distributor so you'll have a clear view down the back of the engines head. Hardest part is taking the metal clip of the connector …and getting it back on after replacing it.
Do it once, clean it all up and take your time.
Kind regards,
Harm. _________________ Porsche 924 NA 1982 LY7A/A3A3 _ Greater driving pleasure never harmed anyone. |

An alternative would be to install a momentary switch in the car. Think of it as serving the same function as an old fashioned choke or primer. When cold starting, push the button for a few seconds to activate the cold start valve while cranking. When hot starting don't push it. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

Thank you very much guys!
Looking at the trouble I will have to go through, I think I will just wait until I have to do the clutch to tackle this job. I can live with the cold start not working. I am chasing perfection here, but blipping the throttle for a couple of seconds is no punishment
I will also be sending the unit I received back and will enquire with Porsche for the correct part. |

Is the car a pain to start when cold? Mine starts on the button without the 5th injector.
Will be far easier to swap out with bell housing off when replacing the clutch for sure. You can unscrew it from below. _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

I've installed the longer one you showed in your photo and it's working fine, not touching anything (plenty room around it) and fonctioning properly.
The original shorter version is NLA, so this is the only proper alternative. _________________ Porsche 924 1983restored

Not really, it starts fine if I drive it daily. When it has been standing for a week or so, it starts right away, but then sputters and dies, on the second attempt it starts better and the settles into a solid idle.

That’s good news Pierro! In that case I will hang on to it until I do the clutch change. |
