Hi,

I have been looking at bonnet crests and I see there are quite significant differences from year to year. Mostly the size and spacing of the dimples. Could anyone show me a 1988 crest? The one on my 1988 924s looks like a repro to me.
Thanks in advance.

That is exactly the same as mine - thank you - and you are sure that is original? Sorry but I can't figure out how to post a picture on this site!

This is 100% original Porsche. I bought and installed it myself. This badge was the standard badge through the 70's, 80's and 90's only getting an update with the introduction of the 993.

This might help

Ah, so it is a modern repro. And mine is too. If you look at originals from the period they are quite different, flatter, deeper red colour and different dimples.

Yes, this photo highlights the differences. This is my new and original emblem side by side. The fact that the red on the old one is deeper, is due to age and UV I think, but you can see that the old emblem's details were different. Stuttgart is stamped better and there are more, smaller, dimples in the old one. In general I think the old emblems are higher quality metal and the embossing is much crisper.

What car did you take the original badge off?
