Hi,
I Just replaced my cam and followers. Unfortunately a couple of the new followers are slightly different and I decided to take some material off the flat faces of the adjusting screws so I could get the screws in far enough and have correct clearance. Now I am worried that the flat sides are hard faced.
Can anyone enlighten me as to
(1) Are they hare faced
(2) Will they still function for a reasonable time as is
Thanks |

When we did my street head was done from a conglomeration of parts from several motors plus a couple of new valves. I measured and tried multiple adjustment screws of various sizes and really couldn't tell much difference between them. And, the early ones from '77 even had paint colors instead of markings to indicate thickness-paint long gone.
The machinist very quickly shortened several valves to allow adjustment like in less than 5 minutes each. With the new motors and their solid lifter shims it is very common to shorten valves rather than try to stock the many types of shims. Also, trying to hold on to that tapered screw to surface grind a few thousands off of itmight be rather difficult and much more expensive. Go ask him how to resolve it. _________________ Mike
