In my restoration process, I finally fired up the heater fan motor. Strange noises came out. I traced it to the bottom edge of the squirrel cage fan blades touch the bottom of the fan mount. I think if I just remove the squirrel cage and sand a bit off the bottom of the blade edges I can gain enough clearance to run freely. My only problem is how do you get the squirrel cage fan out without tearing everything out in the heater box. I have loosened the bottom of the sq cage but I cannot get the fan sq cage to come loose and out the bottom. Any tricks at removing. I don't think the manual says much about this.
Thanks for your help

I removed the entire sq cage fan motor from the top and replaced it when it seized. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

Hey Ozzie... thanks for the help. Indeed I did remove the fan from the top once I got the whole assy dropped a bit. The reason for the drop was the squeal coming from the fan where the squirrel cage hit the bottom case edge.
Once apart I was able to set the fan & squirrel cage up on the bench and run it from a power supply. I then used a sanding block to recess the edge and also used a large bit to remove some of the squirrel cage shaft from the inside. This allowed the SC to be be recessed a bit more into the cavity and that gave me the clearance. Put it back together and now it runs well without any noise
the air moving.
..on to the next problem. Got to get the glove box back in and then the shift boot and cover. Hope to have it finished this summer.
