Apologies if this is covered somewhere. I was changing oil on my project and noticed the control arms were rusty. Not structurally damaged that I can tell. But was trying to find a replacement part. The PET has 177407153, but the descriptions says that is for an 82. Is this the right part?

If yiu don't have a 931 type sway bar then you are in luck. New control arms are from a late model Beetle with IRS. Last time I bought them they were $22/ ea.

Thanks, found some that have the part number and say they for an 81. Other searches were turning up 82 and later. I like $22!

Not sure why they would say that but the ones in the link you sent will fit provided you don't need the extra tabs for a sway bar mount.

You need to confirm which sway bar mounts (if any) you have. For the late model 82, some of the a-arms use the direct-to-a-arm attachment (a small alu bushing housing) as with on the 944 and 924S. The earlier cars have a drop link that attaches to a tab on the a-arm. Make sure you get the correct ones.

Yeah, from what I've seen all but the very last (82) cars (OK, for the US, and talking 2.0L here) need the tab for the front bar mount...

So yeah, we're reworking nasty old rusty ones, usually... almost makes me want to convert to the later bar style, so replacements are in better shape. That or I'll eventually figure out an easier way (less welding) to attach the front bar to the a-arms... maybe just different drop-links...

Goldwolf - if they are sound structurally, just take them and get them sandblasted and powder coated.

I did make the mistake of getting some inexpensive arms, only to find (after powder coating) that I needed the tabs for my '79 na.

If anyone wants the no-tabbed, but powder coated I'd be willing to make a deal.

Maybe the longest wait to reply, but I got the tabs. Getting geared up to do the front suspension finally.
