Man, you'd imagine there'd be a huge market for a new manifold casting, if it could be configured to either go 4-bolt or stock flange replacement, I'd be surprised if less than 50% of our manifolds are cracked.

I tried re-welding mine some time ago, fairly sure it's re-cracked itself...

Cracked exhaust manifolds must be a LHD issue? I've had 5 RHD manifolds through my hands. One had a minor crack, it was the first iteration part number of RHD, it was repaired long before I acquired the car and survived. All others were later versions, none are cracked.

My fault guys. I need to get on this. Niche yes but its still a fun project. I seem to love the research and projects more than actually driving.

Just need to clear some stuff out in the next two weeks or so and get back on it.

Not sure if you guys saw the "cheesy" test vids I posted at the end of that thread.

Working on some other interesting stuff right this second. One of which I think is crazy but I want to see if I can pull it off. Ran it by gegge already

I have this scanned as well but not yet to CAD.

I keep hoping cracking anything will be a thing of the past with proper fueling and setup. Plus getting rid of 4:10

If you ever wanted to produce a new exhaust manifold (with 4 bolt or V band flange), please consider RHD owners. The LHD cars can accept a RHD manifold, but RHD cannot use LHD manifolds. That would preclude the UK, Aus, HK, SA orders. Guessing up to 50% of potential income for such an item. These Countries also could pay more than many US owners who see the 931 as a low budget car. Just a thought?

A very good thought! Thanks for the advice

Regarding that, we now go off topic. But i did some engine simulations with the uk vs row exhaust manifold, since i was curious on how it affects performance, some interesting results. But that should be put in a other thread..

I think my manifold weld is still holding strong..
I got the whole thing so stupid red hot in a forced air firepit Before welding that I burnt some threads off of the end of my j pipe studs..

I’ll pay up pretty decent for a 6.10 if one becomes available..

I remember that! You buried it in sand right?

We should start an exhaust manifold discussion thread. I am always wondering if people want stock (Stock appearing) or something a bit more modern. Individual runners etc. Let me see if my scan pics are online

Edit: http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?p=403232#403232

if anyone wants to post there. no rush. Put it in 931 tech

Dry sand, not wet sand..

Took a Dayton wheel.. Like a wheel/rim that has no center, just a ring..
Dig a trench away from it and put a sheet steel duct to under the Dayton rim..
Squirrel cage out of a house furnace on the end of the duct to blow under the rim..
Bunch of cordwood in the rim, light it then plug in the fan..
Adds lots of oxygen, burns hot AF..
Fill it like twice to get a bed of coals, burn that half down, insert manifold, more wood on top of manifold..
Come back in 5 minutes and the manifold is about to turn into a puddle.. feels like clay on the end of a poker/rod, not scratchy..
When lifted sparks fly off, exterior developes scale..

First dig a hole close to the welder and line with clean dry sand, and get a good 5 gallon bucket of dry sand ready..

Run to welder with darn near melted manifold On the end of poker rod while worried that you ruined it..
Nickel rod on a stick welder, zap it fast cause it’s like butter, throw in hole lined with dry sand and dump 5 gallon bucket of dry sand on top of it..
Mound over more with dry sand...

Fast fast fast!!
Out of turbo fire, welded, and into hole in like 60 seconds..

Check in 5 hours and still burn your hand on it.. Wait longer.. Sleep..
Next day it is still warm and it worked..

Tl;dr
Kiln heat like a blacksmith
Zap with Nickel rod and burry fast in dry sand (have setup ready).. FAST!
Wait 12+ hours..
Successfully welded manifold..

Copy this there if you like..

I can do this job but probably only in the summer (dry sand availability and thawed ground for digging purposes)..
My price is IOUs and Maybe return shipping..

I myself would like to stick to stock/period correct parts as close as possible..
Basically to rub it in the faces of everyone that said “this little engine that could” can’t..

IMO this engine is a 2 valve 2jz that everyone in the past has been ruining with shit intercooling and shit tuning..
It can!

I think the stock 931 2.0 can take more than a stock 2.5 951 engine without closing the block basically..
It’s a tank of a little engine and with the right tuning can hold serious torque/cylinder pressure..

IATs, AFRs, and ARPs..
30 psi.. 400+ chp.. For cheap..

Honda’s ain’t got a block like this.. Or bearings, or rods, or wrist pins, or head clamping.. (or chassis)
Stuff that power in there..

EGT? Sodium filled exhaust valves.. Let’s melt down some turbines..
CLT temps don’t even care.. Doesn't even move..
