HELP!!!
I have a neglected 924 with seriously seized rear drums. Both sides are locked solid. A drum puller just pushes the drive shafts out. She's been parked up hand brake OFF, in gear for years. How do I get the drum off to clean everything out?

1st just start tapping/beating the drum from the sides with a rubber mallet to try and loosen things

Ive tried hitting it with assorted hammers. Nothing happening! Drum doesn't even spin. I'm now at the point where I just want to smash them to get them off! Would heating it with a hand held butane torch help?

I had the same issue. What I need to do was get behind the drum and back off the adjustment screw to bring the pads in. Once the adjustment screw is loosened up bang it with the mallet. That's what worked for me.

You probably can't get it hot enough with a butane torch to really accomplish anything. I had this happen on an MG once, I had to futz with the adjustment bolt assembly and get it backed out all of the way. Once I got that done I was able to pry from the inside and get the shoes loose enough that the hammer worked to pop it loose. Liberal use of penetrating oil helped too. From my experience the drums can be very difficult to remove on a 924 under good conditions.

Thanks. I'll spend a couple of days attacking it with penetrating oil and give it another try.

Loosen the adjusters, remove inspection plugs on the back of the backing plates and pry the shoes away from the drums.

I was flummoxed with this once before, burning and bashing it repeatedly for a good afternoon until I realised and completely backed off the adjusters. Hey Presto. Drum fell off.
