|
|
Hi guys, just back after long trip. Checked for usual coolant level and oil after weekend trip. All okay. After about an hour there was a puddle of coolant on floor. Dripping from water pump housing. Took her out again, after topping up coolant, and noticed same leak but stops after a while. Should I replace the pump! Doesn't make any squealing sounds or grinding when turning!!

Yes, classic signs of a failing water pump. Replace it before you get stranded or overheat!
{EDIT}
I should have added, you should carefully check all of the small rubber hoses in that vicinity. It is possible you have a pinhole leak that is not noticeable while driving, but then when you shut down, the immediate heat gain that occurs after shutting the motor causes pressure build up, causing the pinhole leak to become more obvious.
Of particular concern is the small s-shaped bypass hose that connects the water pump to the lower t-stat housing. This hose is no longer available, so if it's shot, you'll have to get creative to adapt some other off-the-shelf hose. The other potential culprits are all of the rad hoses, the big reducer hose from the water pump to the rear-of-head pipe, and of course, the upper t-stat hose with the bleeder. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Might as well do the belt and tensioner. I think I only paid $40 for both the belt and tensioner online at Advanced. _________________ 1980 931 ~ 67,000 miles |

Thanks for tips Ideola. Just felt around the stat housing underneath and there
Is coolant, I believe leaking from that area and dripping onto the water pump housing. I'll pull the Cam belt cover for better access and visual and take her on a run, may only be the gasket or hoses! _________________ Robert.
