what the K26-2664 G 4.10 numbers really mean...

K26 - 2664 - G - 4.10
turbo family - compressor wheel - ?G? - turbine housing air ratio

I will continue to add to this.. my final goal is to get all the part numbers of the turbine housings, turbine wheels, bearing housings, compressor housings, and compressor wheels all in there home with there correct turbocharger so we can end all of the ridiculously conflicting information out there...

if you have info you would like to add post it and ill put it undr the correct turbocharger..
MAKE SURE ITS CORRECT..

BorgWarner Turbo Systems

KKK or Borg Warner part numbers have more complicated variations, and are often abbreviated on the part number plate. Please see the following examples of the KKK part numbers:-

K03 turbocharger part numbers may read as follows:-

K03-53
5303 970 0053
5303 971 0053
5303 988 0053
All of these variants are the same part number which would be listed on our catalogue page as 5303 970 0053.

Another variation in the K03 family reads as follows:-

BV43-139
This variant would be listed on our catalogue page as 5303 970 0139.

K04 turbocharger part numbers may read as follows:-

K04-20
5304 970 0020
5304 971 0020
5304 988 0020
All of these variants are the same part number which would be listed on our catalogue page as 5304 970 0020.

Another variation in the K04 family reads as follows:-

BV50-50
This variant would be listed on our catalogue page as 5304 970 0050.

KP35 turbocharger part numbers may read as follows:-

KP35-5
KP35-0005
5435 970 0005
5435 971 0005
5435 988 0005
All of these variants are the same part number which would be listed on our catalogue page as 5435 970 0005.

KP39 turbocharger part numbers may read as follows:-

KP39-22
BV39-22
5439 970 0022
5439 971 0022
5439 988 0022
All of these variants are the same part number which would be listed on our catalogue page as 5439 970 0022.

The 970, or 971, or 988 code indicates that this is the turbo part number; alternative codes would indicate other components.

-------------------------

For compressors, Garret and KKK use a Trim number. Garrett's trim number is a ratio of the area of the top of the compressor wheel to the bottom of the compressor wheel. For instance: When garret says a 50 trim, they mean the area of the inlet is 50% of the area of the base. take a T04E 50 trim wheel. The base diameter of the wheel is 76.2mm(3"). That makes an area of 7.06 sq. inches. The top area is 50% of that or 3.53 sq. in. working backwards gives up a top inlet diameter of 2.12"

"KKKtrim" is a bit different. They specify compressors by numbers like 2760 or 3060. The first two numbers is the base diameter in decimal inches. So a 27## has a 2.7" base wheel. A 30## is a 3" base wheel. The 2nd pair of numbers is the ratio of the diameters (not the areas). So a 2760 has a base diameter of 2.7" and a top inlet diameter of 1.62" likewise a 2672 (rs2) has a base diameter of 2.6" and a top inlet diameter of 1.872" In Garret speak, the RS2 would be a 51.8 trim compressor wheel with a 66mm base diameter. The RS2 comp has a 2.7" compressor wheel (71.12mm) with a top diameter of 1.872". This is a KKKtrim 2770 wheel. Garret Trim is 48.

What use is all this? Say you want a Garrett wheel that will be similar to a RS2 comp's compressor characteristics. Look for a Garret 12 blade compressor wheel with a base diameter of 71mm and a trim around 50.
The original GT35 has a 71mm wheel and a 50 trim. And lo and behold! the map is very similar to an RS2 in terms of where it falls with regards to PR/and flow. The Knee of the map is even similar in shape to the RS2. You'll find these map similarities exist when comparing a K24 map to a similarly sized Garrett compressor.

For turbine wheels and housings. KKK designates their housings with a stamping on the inside of the inlet. Looking through KKK tech papers this number is the A/R of the housing. So a K27 9.11 housing with a 9 stamped on the inside of the housing is a .9 A/R

Garret A/R is listed in their catalogues.

We sort of already have one of these threads...haven't checked to see if all your numbers are in it, but take a look at this:

Also this: http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?p=326718

And this:

Hybrid usually means mix-and-match between different types, for example a K27 with a K26. Or a Garret coldside with a K26 hotside.

Mixing a 931 with a 951 qualifies

I have tried the later 951 turbo and confirm the hotside swap

And this:

Is the 951 type 2 the better/ bigger turbo to use for the 931 ?

Yes the late 951 is similar to GTS spec. IIRC differ in height of the wingtips of the compressorwheel. MUCH better than 2470 from 200hp all the way up to 300hp. The 2470 doen´t have the physical capabilities to pump enough air and the efficiancy of the 951 is rather good and doesn´t heat the air like the old one.

this says the k26/6 will not work

I just got a pdf complete parts list for the 931 s1 turbo, its 3 pages long...

and has 3 different compatable part numbers for the shaft/wheel...

how can I put it on here?

I sent them this......

is there any way I could convince you to do the same for these turbos also?

K26-2660 GA 4.10 Porsche 931 s1

K26-2667GGA/6.92 Porsche 951 s1

K26-2670GGA/8.11 Porsche 951 s2

turbo parts for our cars are getting extremely scarce and hard to come by, our Porsche 924/944 community would really benefiet from definitive information regarding what parts fit what between witch of these turbos so we can make best use of whats left to keep our cars on the road..

so maybe we can finally get some real hard numbers...

Eddie, here are the facts:
The 951 K26/6 will not directly work on either side, you can use the center section with the 931 wheels & housings to add water cooling.
The K26/8 turbine wheel will work.
The 931 compressor housing must be machined to use the 951 K26/6 compressor wheel

I got an email back from them for all of the other 3 turbos so now I have complete parts lists for all 931 s1 s2 and 951 s1 and s2 turbos..

they said they noticed that most of this stuff is discontinued..

I would like to organize the important stuff in excel spreadsheet but I don't even have that program on my computer so ill figure something out..

from what ive looked at so far

all of them have different compressors, not one the same.. so the k26/6 and k26/8 do indeed have different compressors...

all of these turbos share the same turbine wheel EXCEPT the k26/6..

witch sucks for me...

OpenOffice is free, but Google Docs is available online and easily shared. Both offer basic office functionality including a spreadsheet solution.

I put the important stuff in my original post like I intended to in the first place...

if anyone wants me to email them these pdf's I will, they have all the part numbers for every little clip and washer EVERYTHING!!

or ask me what you want to know and ill look it up for you...

im telling you what, ive searched and searched and couldn't ever come up with this information, and found ALL SORTS OF INCORRECT INFORMATION OUT THERE, everyones information conflicted with everyone elses...

im not about to say "ha, you were wrong" or "congrats you had it right" to all these people but now there is no question, no argument, just clear concise information stating the FACTS...

and its about damn time...

right now im running a 931 s2 turbo because I wound up with one that will work for now..

running well..

and I picked up an audi 5000, 5326 970 6411 watercooled k26 that has the same turbine and compressor wheel size as our 931 s1..

it seems to have its housings port polished and then kindof frosted compared to our turbos, im not sure if its custom or what but the surface finish in the scrools for example is leaps and bounds better than our 931 turbos..
I may run its compressor housing.. it looks like it'd flow a tun better, and is a tun lighter/smaller, but no bov in it..

and it came with caps on the turbine and some almost tar like substance coating the entire inside of the turbine, I believe its a rust protection, its no motor oil for sure and is not burnt at all... looks like its designed to burn off when you run it.. idk

so our s1 housings bolt right to its bearing housing with all of its guts perfect.. but the oil lines are a bit different..

im not sure if I want to go through of all the trouble of trying to get the oil lines/mount figured out and adapted but it seems like they are very similaraly placed and that with the slop/room in the oil feed mount deal it may not take much modifications to get it to work, its very close..

I may post pics if anyone is interested

Great thread,

FYI for the middle three numbers 988 is a part number for distributors while 970 designates supply to an OEM.

Eg. 5326 970 7041 is the exact same turbo as 5326 988 7041

Hey thanks, and thanks for dropping more knowledge.. Feel free to drop any interesting stuff you find about treating K26's like legos here
