|
|
I have bought a new hood emblem but cannot figure out how to replace it. I am unable to get acces to the studs holding it in place.
I feel like a total idiot for not being able to figure this out and the 944 DIY's I have been able to locate on the web don't help because my front panel is not screwed on like the 944 but welded. I am assuming this is the same for all 924's?
I can see one of the studs and it looks like it is rivited on so I don't want to go pulling on the panel risking damaging it.
I have also searched this board but have not been able to find any pointers.
Please help! |

It's a stamped steel nut, 10mm more or less.
My wife was able to get her hand and a small wrench in from the engine compartment, but came out rather bloody.

I cannot get to it from the engine bay. It is blocked by the "slam plate" for the hood. The only way I could see anything was via one of the four vents in the front.
I also checked the factory manual but no luck. It cannot be this hard, all other Porsches are dead easy. |

Will either be plastic or metal 'caps' onto the pins of the badge from under the panel. Shine a torch into the removed vents to check which and if possible to pry from under the panel. Hopefully its not a nut. A world of pain getting your hand into the vent hole with a small spanner
Try nylon interior trim removing tools to pry off the badge. Use lots of masking tape around the badge to avoid scratching the paint. Use a wide flat scraper to avoid denting if prying rather than pulling.
Or slide fishing line under the top and bottom of badge and wrap around a handle and pull firmly.
Can be done. Not as easy as a modern Porsche bonnet badge, but is possible.
Sometimes the pin(s) will break from the badge _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

Thanks!
It is defineitely not nuts, it looks like long rivets. I will try to pry the badge off tonight.
My problem was that I thought this works in the same was as the 911, but there you have a press on speed nuts and on the 924 I now realise that you have more of a sleeve
For the 911 you need part number 99959142303
And for the 924 your need part number 99970217550
Rookie mistake |

Mine had the upper piece, above, and it twisted over rough threads on the posts. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Great success!
What was on the back of yours? The speed nut or the cylinder? Did you manage to get at it from behind? |
