Hello
I just picked up my first "project car". I say this because it is older, and sounds cooler. But in the land of Hondas, pretty much every car you buy needs work and is technically a project.
Anywho, it is a 1981 924 Turbo (Series II) from what I understand. It runs and drives, to an extent. Has a problem starting cold, unless i spray carb cleaner in the intake then it will fire up but I will have to hit the throttle a bit to keep it going. Also has some loud valve noise (not knock, I know the difference). doing a valve adjustment when i get the new gasket in. And has a broken thermostat housing (new one on the way). Power windows arent working. So far these are the only problems i''ve had. I need to find the owners manual as i don't know what half of the buttons do on the inside. there are wires and a relay hanging down by the gas pedal i'm going to have to redo and find out why they are there in the first place. also, one of the sensors on the intake manifold was cut and wired separately, and the o2 sensor on the downpipe is hooked up to nothing. Could not find the plug it is supposed to mate with.

Has been sitting in a field for about 6 months, and prior to that supposedly sat in a garage for a couple years. body is in great shape for a 30+ year old car. Has a little bit of hail damage on the hood and roof and the windshield is cracked from the same. side panels and rear are great minus the side molding on the doors. front lower airdam is a little bent. not sure of the miles on this beast, as I have yet to carfax it. PO said 62k original miles, but i notice the gauges only go up to 99,999 so i think he is just a little dense.

I paid 1,000 for this car. Here are the pictures i've taken so far. in them you will find my current car - 1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo @250whp.

Get a Haynes manual, they are cheap and really good.

It suppose to be attached behind the cross frame.

Yes I failed to mention the guy gave me the haynes for it:) published in 1984! He also gave me the original porsche tool kit and original spare. I just want to find the owners manual that will tell me what all the switches do in the cab.

Or post pics of your dash and identify the unknown switches here and we will be able to help you.

So I carfaxed it. Looks to be like it was originally a California car. from 1981 to 1992 it accrued 42000 miles., and in 2000 it had 61811. so looks to be like the original owner NEVER drove it. then, as i'm told, it sat for a few years. nothing on the radar until 2008 when it was sold, sold again in 2009, sold again in 2010, then nothing. car is currently at 62018 miles. so not sure if people have just had problems with it and it just sat with each owner, or someone seriously rolled it back.

I think these cars can be a bit of a shock for car enthusiasts unprepared for them. I bought mine from someone who hadn't had it long. His parents were used to restoring old Aussie cars and once I started on mine it was kind of obvious that a Porsche was just too different. Heck, a fuel injection system was pretty cutting-edge for that era!
