Doing my spring oil change within the next couple of days, just wondering what viscosity to use for the spring/summer months? I'm currently running 10w30 non synthetic oil.

Synthetic? I hate to bring it up, but would regular oil with the same viscosity be pretty much the same?

Dino juice means not synthetic.

It depends on your motor. Mine uses oil, so synthetic would be way too expensive. It's also old and tired, so thicker oil makes sense.

Synthetics are a no-brainer in a turbo motor. Synthetic and conventional are NOT the same, but conventional is good enough for many applications.

No. If you want to run dino I would not go 5w40.

I just put the Penn 20 - 50 in my car last weekend.
I would tend to stay away from the Synthetic unless it has been used for a while before. Or if you have just done a motor rebuild and are starting from scratch oil wise. I would probably use a high mileage oil as well.

just my thoughts. I went with Penn as my car will be tracked a bit this summer.

Yup. No more oil light/buzzer troubles (several VW's).

Put 20 50 in yesterday and IT'S TOO THICK!

Idles at just above 2bar when warm (not that bad)

Cruising on the highway at 3k rpm reads 5.8bar (pretty damn high)

Above 3k rpm it goes up to about 6.3bar and then stops ascending.

Thinking I'll go out and buy some 10 30 since that seemed to work well before. Maybe some 10 40.

Anybody want to buy some barely used 20w 50 Castrol dino juice?

I am not an expert, but would be really happy with those numbers.
I am running the same weight oil and get the same numbers.

Those pressures are good per FSM. Plus, they will go down after a few heat cycles.

Hmm, they seemed a little high to me. But I probably know less than you guys do

10 30 gave me very different pressures that seemed a little more "comfortable" (4bar at 3krpm on the highway. Idling at 1bar.)

I'll see how it goes. Thanks guys!
