Two questions: (1) I would like to replace the hood prop rod on my 1978 924 with hood shocks. Anyone know of a kit for this? (2) I replaced all of the rubber seals on my car when I had it painted, but I can't figure out how to install the curved aluminum trim on the upper door window seals. Does anyone know how to do this? The trim came off real easily from the old seals. Thanks

The parts to add the hood shocks used to be available as a kit from Porsche but they are No Longer Available (NLA). If you really want this mod, your best bet is to find a 944 or 924S hood that has the parts. You can then either swap the hood, or you can attempt to drill out the spot welds for the brackets and ball sockets and mount them on your existing hood. This latter approach does not look to be very feasible, however, because the size of the spot welds is pretty big and drilling them out will likely destroy most of the bracket.

Reinstalling that metal trim is a bit of a PITA, but if you lubricate the rubber seals with soapy water, you will have an easier time getting the trim to press into the slot in the seals.

Thanks. I was afraid that would be the case with the hood shocks. The prop rod lives. I'll give the soapy water a try.

Some of the early batteries won't work with the hood struts. The strut will interfere with the battery. The 944 had the battery oriented differently, which allows the struts to clear;
