When a car's frame has been cut off and welded back together that is usually bad right?

I've seen it quite a few times back in the '70s and '80s with 911s and 356s. Front and rear clips welded together to form one good car from two wrecks. Newer insurance and re-titling requirements make it harder for chop shops to get away with it now.

The 924S I went to look at today had the frame cut right in front of the engine and welded back together. I was highly disappointed.

It isn't great and can drop the price of the car considerably.

However, if done properly, there's nothing inherently wrong with it. If it is in front of the suspension locating points, then its only mostly cosmetic. Having a bodyshop tech look at it can tell you whether it was done well (posting pictures here might help as well)

The guys that want to build 954's (924 with the 951 drivetrain) use a 951 front clip that requires cutting and welding to the front end. So it has been done without issue, though they usually leave the frame rails alone and replace the core support between the rails.

Ask Rasta about the Miata ChumpCar that he's raced after being wrecked and rebuilt something like 4 times (the final time required a new front clip)

It was poorly done. I''ll just wait on something else.

Dont buy it !
Such repairs have to be done in near factory quality standards for the end result to be acceptable.

I have done this with my dad many times, when he does it you can't notice it unless you know exactly where and what to look for. If its obvious, walk away
