Hey guys I have an 82 model 924 with bumper lights, recently the lights have turned off, high beam still works, I took the relay out for the high beam so the bumper light high beam does not work, the h4 globes are now always on high beam, I have checked for power to the globes, no power to globe, checked the fuse, fuse is fine, no power to fuse, checked the wiring diagram, after the main switch there is one other light switch. Just wondering if anyone could help me with the diagnosis, and if anyone knows where this secondary switch is for the light?

I have been through the whole headlight drama, have a look at one of my old posts:

http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=35072&highlight=

The in-bumper lights are powered via the indicator stalk, when you flash/highbeam the stalk carries the full current (9.2amps) and as such can overheat and not contact.

There is also a male/female connector close to the fuse box in which mine was corroded.

My post should clear it up for you.

Cheers

Yes I am aware that the bumper lights are activated by the stalk bit the actual head lights on the pop up lights are not working, but the high beam on the pop up works, into on the relay out for the bumper light so I'm driving around constantly with the pop up high beam on

OK, i misread your post, so your normal beams are not working?

If you have no power at fuses, I'd be looking at what you call the "other light switch" it is part of the wiper/indicator stalks. I have photos of it in my post.

It is what it shown as "headlight relay" in the wiring diagram.

Good luck!

Ok I will investigate your post and I will give you feed back on my findings.
Thank you for your help.
Was it hard to wire your bumper lights with that current flow diagram you had drawn?

My LH headlight stopped working (wiring fault somewhere) so I ended up wiring both headlights into relays activated by the column switch, from the RH side wiring.

using heavier cable I also can now also run 100w/60 in both lights.

That's a much simpler way of doing it really. Just a 4 pin relay or did you use the 5 pin?

I used two 5 pin relays.

Yes you need to check those switches. They generally cause such problems

Bumper lights have a switch on the centre console.
