Over the years, I have street/highway raced my car against a variety of 912 and 914 Porsches and won. Other 4 cylinder NON-TURBO Porsches are out there and its our duty to find out how our cars stack up.
As far as I know, 912's only had one type of 4 cylinder motor, while 914's had four (including the 914/6 which are pretty rare). Some people even drop V8's in these cars, but they are even rarer and don't count.
The 1.7, 1.8 and 2.0 liter 914's are cars that the NA 924 can beat if driven properly. The 914's handle great, but so does the 924.
Street racing is illegal and I don't encourage it. Most of my encounters take place on the highway or on twisty mountain roads. None of this 'Fast and Furious' racing for pink slips, drag racing nonsense.
If the road conditions are right, our cars really come into their own. I wonder if any of you have taken out an air cooled Porsche and how it happened.

Actually the 912 had two motors, the left over 356 motors for the '65-69 but in '76 they brought back the 912 to fill the sales gap between the outgoing 914 and the soon to be 924. They put in the same 2.0 VW 4-cylinder that the 914 had.

Pat,
That 1976 model was the 911E wasn't it? Looks just like a regular 911 but with the small motor.
I like 356's but they are tiny and hard to get into. Haven't seen many of them on the road but I see plenty at show n' shines.

Raced a 914-6 in Germany (85-89). This car was built at TVM in Zuffenhausen, Stuttgart. Herr Merklie didn't care what we did to the car as long as it was the mods he did to "his" cars. This man was banned in the 70's for "bending the rules". The 914-6 that Roundtree and myself raced placed 1st in TSD, FTD and Auto cross for 8 years straight. I was with the car for only four years.

If you all want, post, for the awsome mods we did to the car.

912E I think you meant to say in 1976.
