As anyone had much success in rewiring their Porsche with more up to date wiring standards?

I think some on Pelican have turned early 944 wiring fuse blocks, to later model versions. I have a complete '80 turbo wiring harness available if you need bits and pieces. From the front of the car to the engine, and dash/window/mirrors stuff. I'm keeping the rear part. Excellent shape, hardly any corrosion on terminal ends. It's a Euro version though, no O2 sensor. But otherwise the same for '80 models here.

I replaced every wire in the car with high temperature wire. Replaced every connector with new. New fuse box. Added electric door locks and alarm. I believe it was 7 harnesses in total from front to back.

Very interesting. This is what I would like to do as well, though my car came with electric windows and locks I believe. Did you relocate the fuse block to a more accessible location? And I assume you updated the fuses themselves to use the standard U shaped fuses.

If you want to do this, then I'd just use a Painless harness.

Then learn how to disassemble the Porsche connectors (though some are standard Bosch pieces) and mate them to the Painless Harness.

Otherwise, I'd not bother and fix the minor issues with the harness based on whatever issues you've found. Most are just poor connector connectivity. If you're handy with a soldering iron, you can replace the ceramic fuses with standard blade fuses.

I found that moving to MS EFI with EDIS cleaned up a lot of the wiring under the dash and hood because so much of it was self-contained and separate from the existing harness.

My primary reason for wanting to clean up the electrics is that there are so many wires free hanging all over the place. The fuse boxes are totally unmanageable. Since I've never actually driven the car on the street, I really have no idea what is working or broken. Since I've taken the engine apart, I've seen that the previous owner had no idea what he was doing when he had this car last so I feel like if something feels or seems broken, it probably is.

When you switched to MS and EDIS, what did you do with all of the lambda and ignition wiring?
