Has anyone figured out how to clean the black "mud" out of the brake master cylinder? I started off rinsing with brake fluid and got most of the front compartment, but the back compartment is impossible to get into. I currently have it filled with diesel, but it is not removing it. On some internet searches apparently people have filled them with BB's and shook them, but with the small passages I'm worried about getting them back out, others used the dishwasher, which has been vetoed by my wife. Any suggestions?

Hey Mike, I recently did this on the black 931 when I replaced the brake M/C. Pretty tough to get all of the crud out of there. I used copious amounts of brake cleaner, using the tiny little hose attachment. With the hose, you can direct the spray a bit better, after half a can, it was fairly clean.

Paint Stripper , I use the stronger Aircraft remover type. Just don't leave the rubber seal on it. it won't hurt the plastic but it will swell up rubber parts.

Works on expansion tanks also, got to flip them upside down and let them soak a while. Use an old cap. I have one without the seal I use for cleaning expansion tanks, learned the hard way...

Cleaned up like a champ. I have some .22 LR (rifle) bird shot for reducing the local ground squirrel population and put the pellets in the tank with a Simple Green/water mixture and just shook it for five minutes and it cleaned up perfectly. Iused vacuum caps for the small ports. Rinsed out and and let dry then rinsed with alcohol and let dry. BB's are too big to and may not come out the holes. Going to do the same with the coolant tank, but I have some #4 shotgun shells for that.
