I thought you were going fuel injected, what made you go carb?

The carb will be temporary. I'm using the carb so I can get my car on the road faster. It's been about 13 yrs now that it has been a project. (mostly because of the limited amount of cash I have had to work with)

I am figuring that I should have the car on the road next summer this way. It would likely push it off another year to get everything together for the injection system.

I almost wish I had gone the carb route because I could have had it tuned perfect in a day. The computer BS has been the biggest headache and limiting factor of the project.

Yes the FI can be a pain to get right. I think I will have a much easier time dealing with the FI when everything else is finished.

I was trying to get the carb to fit under the hood But I don't think it is possible. So I will need to get another hood to use for the carb. I found a late S10 cowl induction hood scoop that looks like it will fit the curvature of the hood as well. Originally when I began this project, I was going to go with a carb and had a hood that I had cut for air cleaner clearance. I got rid of it a few years ago though.

I am interested in your intake setup. I judge from the bolt angles of the heads that they are not LT1 type heads correct? Have you made a carb intake fit lt1 heads before?

They are not LT heads. I got a deal on a set of ProComp Gen I heads. These have the bolt pattern for & GenI and Vortec intakes. These are the late ProComp and they flow as well as ported LT4 heads.

I modified my LT intake to fit just before I decided to use a carb so it is ready when I get to the FI.

I don't see why you couldn't use a Gen I manifold on Gen II heads You wouldn't use the water crossover and would need to plug the distributor hole. I haven't looked at how the bolt holes would be slanted for the different angle but I don't see that it would be too much of an issue.

I just looked at my Weiand intake and it looks like you could not use it on LT heads. The LT heads have the bolts (the 6 pairs) further apart and there is no material on the manifold flange where the hole would be. This doesn't mean that all intakes are like this. I only have this one so I don't know if others are the same.

I have my ram-air induction half built, and it is built around the lt4 manifold so I doubt if I will go carb any time soon. I do think I need to get the software and cable to tune my system myself. While the tune I purchased provides plenty of power, idle seems iffy and they whole system is running too rich. I dont like to have to pay someone to tune my shit anyway. A carburetor and dist would simply things.

I have my engine finished.

My boys couldn't wait to help. They learned how to read my mikes and bore gauge and how to put in cam bearings and check clearances.

It's balanced and blueprinted.

When you get that thing driving we need to meet up somewhere. Let me know if you want to get rid of that modified carb manifold for lt heads.

I went through the whole harness and re-tapped/repaired and added & removed some parts. I also tagged everything so it will be easy to re-install.
This was the mess I tool out of the car:

I also disassembled all of the locks, cleaned them and re-assembled them. Now they work like new. I found a company in Australia that makes new keys. They punch cut the keys so they are the same as the ones you got with the car when new. So I will have new keys for everything.

Yes, the harness is a challenge to get out. I expect it won't be much easier to put back in either. But at least I know that it is in good working order now.

Last weekend I started to replace the bearings in my torque tube. What a job it is to get the bearings and the dampener out. I wasn't going to do this but thought it might be a good idea. Good thing because two of the three bearings were in bad shape.

I wonder why Porsche only used 3 bearings in the G31 TT. The 016Y and Z had 4 and everything newer had 4 as well. And when they went to the AUDI based transaxles they took out the dampener.

Anyway, I took apart my spare 944 TT to get another bearing assembly out to add a 4th bearing in my G31 TT.
