|

Hi guys. I'm re-freshing my suspension bushes front and rear and I've come across replacement solid mounts for the spring plates.
I'm otherwise replacing all bushes with OEM Porsche rubber ones as its an almost purely road car but with 17's and Spax suspension, pretty firm already.
These solid mounts are half the price of OEM rubber but I'm concerned about the amount of vibration they will transmit on a road car?
Anyone tried them in a similar application?
Cheers, John. _________________ UK spec '83 N/A with 931 motor with Eaton MP62 'charger @ 15psi. EFI - 565cc inj. Standalone Adaptronic ECU. 951 FMIC. Ally rad. Twin throttle. Recirc valve. Custom manifolds and CAI. 232bhp |

For the rears, I would leave stock rubber for the sub-frame mounting points (even though those solid mounts are sexy, they are VERY expensive), and use the money I saved on Elephant Racing spring plate bushes (greasable, will never squeak) and spherical trailing arm bushings.
These are very nice pieces, IMO, and will make suspension movement in the rear smoother, more linear, and more manageable. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Hi Daniel. A few people sell the solid mounts.... in the UK i can get them for £130 inc postage but dan (ideola sells them in his garage for US customers). They are halfway down the suspension page...

Rasta, thanks for your reply.
To clarify things.... I'm wanting to do a 'proper job' in one sitting, rather than do half now, half later, but equally don't mind replacing the rubber bits again in 10 - 15 years time. My aim is to tighten things up, but maintain a near stock comfort level. So for these reasons I was keen to stick with rubber where possible. I agree the solid mounts are a bit expensive, but infact are a bargain at less than half the price of a pair of Porsche rubber spring plate mounts.
My question is how much do the spring plate mount and the rubber mount at the end of the shark fine (comes off the torsion tube each side extening up to the apex of the inner wheel arch)? Does changing these make much difference to handling? is it worth bothering at all, or as long as they are in one piece, will they do a good job as they are?
Difficult questions I know, but i'm trying to work out what does what, and with new rubbers elsewhere, do the mounts make much difference?
I'm going to replace the front torsion bar mounts (onto inner sill) with OEM rubber.
I've seen the poly-bronze kit and it looks good but I dont like the idea of mixing grit and grease - UK roads are pretty mucky places and so whilst the grease will purge out the dirt, its still a bit worrying.
Elephant racing do replacement rubber items (which are $120 cheaper) so question is whether I put that $120 towards getting the OEM spring plate mounts, or go solid and save the cash for something else......

Whilst the spherical bearing will improve suspension travel and control, I'm concerned they will transmit too much vibration for a road car.....?
Your opinions are very very welcome... I'm going around in circles!!
