|
|
I just took the 924 to a track day at the Streets of Willow - Willow Springs Raceway. I went with with a friend of mine. He brought his 1999 miata.
My car is not fast by any means, but that doesn't take away from the fun unless you are constantly looking at your times in comparison to other cars with 3x the power. It's a pretty tight twisty track that's fun for any good handling car. I did manage to pass a Lamborghini Murcielago a couple of times. I'm sure he was just scared to push his super expensive car.
The track is 180 miles north of where I live, so it's always a bit of a worry. I have to drive 180 miles to the track, race the hell out of the car all day long, and then drive 180 miles home. I didn't have any problems. The 924 made the trip fine and then ran perfectly all day at the track, and got me home without an issue.
I wasn't too good about taking pictures of all of the cars, but here are some random pictures of some of the cars I liked. Unfortunately no pictures of the 924 on track because my friend and I were in the same race group.
Bright and early before getting to the track. My car riding low with 6 wheels and tires in the back, 2 full five gallon gas containers, a crate of spare parts, tools etc.
One of the faster cars at the track. '72 Datsun 510 with a 260hp Japanese SR20DET Silvia turbo engine.
This '81 928 was an automatic. :-/

I am not sure when I'll be going again. I might go again sometime in the summer, but I don't really have a plan.
Those are still the 4 lug. The car has bolt on spacers with their own studs. It's still 4x108 but the spacers are probably about an inch thick, so those wheels wouldn't have the correct offset to just bolt on.
They are ATS comp lite 15x7 I think. ~12lb each.
Yup. It was a blast! Soo much fun. _________________ 1980 Porsche 924 N/A USA

anyone ever seen the SR20 motor in a 924? Is that even possible? From my understanding (which is very small) it is also a 2.0 motor....I've seen them for sale for $1,500 to $2,000. And I love those motors. _________________ 1982 924 2.0 |

Anything is possible with enough time, money and material.
Check out the engine swap section down below for ideas and completed transplants. _________________ Stefan

The track is in Rosamond. About an hour and a half north of LA. Its a bit of a drive. I'm in North County San Diego. I wish we had a track in SD. _________________ 1980 Porsche 924 N/A USA
