I have 4 (yes it is true!) spare snail shells, so I guess 4 924 Turbos have died to give me these...
(I haven't killed any 931 so don't blame me!) |
Sad isn't it? I just realized I just bought another spare block and crank a few weeks ago which means another 931 down. Maybe it gets the chance to live on in mine.

Picked up one more last night. Haven't gone over it yet. There are plenty of issues but nothing I can't handle

Thanks!
I was standing there looking at the seats and thinking 'I always wanted those, hmmm'. It isn't perfect (someone else repainted recently which makes the pics nice) but its a driver. The electrical is a mess (lots of gauges and lights don't work) and its seems to be dumping an awful lot of fuel at full throttle. I should add as well it idles all over the place including at one point a steady 3K! Like you said a good starting point. Drove it home yesterday which was around 20+ mostly highway miles.

Got that right! I have four, and had to pass on a nice two-tone non-runner for cheap. Been too darn cold, and with a sore back lately, to get anything done on the projects. When done, then Og get more~! _________________ '83 944 Track car.

Hey Mike 9311
Did you buy the 931 that was on craigslist and the other two were in a factory workshop from the plumber guy? One had front end damage, the other had the engine in bits.
If you did I'm glad they went to a good home. If I didn't have the Alfa project in the garage as well as the 931 rebuild I would have purchased one of the parts cars. _________________ 1980 Turbo

All were from the plumber guy! Funny
The 1st one was probably on Craigslist first and then later on ebay where I found it (I wasn't looking!). We grabbed some extra parts for the runner and saw the other two. I felt my body go numb like I was looking away from something terrible and trying to tell myself not to want them. I couldn't do it and now both are here. Of course now I must rid myself of some other things primarily the old e28 which really should have been given away for parts a while ago. I feel better now that I have enough drive tubes to make one Aluminum without feeling like I may loose a spare. I too wanted to put out a red alert to save the two parts cars as I felt they needed saving but then just saved them myself. They are rough though, body wise. _________________ 1980 931 since 1989

Finally got mine from the paint shop so here goes.
It is a 1981 RoW 177hp S2 model in Pewter/Platinum Metallic paint with a beige-brown berber vinyl/cloth interior.
This one is originally a German one owner car (1981-1988) after which it was imported to Sweden but due to missing emission documentation (long before EU) did not pass inspection and was pretty much standing still for the next 20 years or so. An enthusiast finally bought the car in late '08 as a parts car for his track car project. He found the car to be too original and in too good of a shape to be hacked so he put some effort in reviving the car. With the current EU legislation there was no problem getting the car inspected and registered in Sweden. I then bought the car in late '09 and imported it to Finland.
At the time of purchase the car was mechanically quite strong as the previous owner had gone through it thoroughly. During its time in Sweden it also had got new brakes and a factory reconditioned turbo. The gears and clutch work almost perfectly.
The only downfall was that during storage the car had got a number of small (and a few larger ones) dings and dents here and there, no rust anywhere though. And although its only been driven about 109kkm's so far the dashpad is severely cracked. Well I haven't found a decent replacement so I opted for a Coverlay dash cover. To be honest the color is not a real match and build quality is rather crappy considering the plain cover costs around $100. I wander why no one has thought about producing an exclusive cover with a softer texture on top to imitate the factory look... a business idea Dan
I was planning to keep the car original with a rather limited budget but in a spur of a moment all hell broke loose. I bought a 937 Carrera GT turbo and intercooler, decided to have the car repainted, got a CGT hood (thanks Gegge) and scoop. After all the parts are a bolt on to an '81 931 and the car can still be converted back to original rather easily.
The car is still narrow body cause I wasn't convinced with the aftermarket hard glasfibre CGT panels and the factory parts are not available (and even if they were, they would cost a small fortune).
In case someone on this side of the pond is interested the car is most likely going to be put on the market within the next weeks to come. Unfortunately I don't have the place, time and energy for 3 Porsche's... the car is not cheap by any standards, especially as cars are so damn expensive over here
Here's a few recent pictures of the car.

I have a TMIC like yours, and was wondering if you could zoom in on the passenger side mounting bracket and take a pic for me? Mine did not come with brackets, and currently, have a home made goofy looking bracket to support the unit on that corner. Thanks, Dave. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

That's all right, while flogging the beast today, I broke the throttle body bracket where I connected my home-made bracket. So, back to the drawing board for both sides! And, just replaced a broken lower charge tube bolt, so, maybe it's time to check motor mounts, etc. dave _________________ '83 944 Track car.
