I'm not a American car person, but I have to say they did a good job on it. I was surprised to look out my window this morning to see a silver one parked in front of my apartment building (not an rs). I really like the oil press/batt/(whatever else that is) meters on the center console. _________________ White 1987 Porsche 924S manual |

Very cool car!
Too bad it’s an auto. Yeah, I could live with an auto, but we all know a stick is preferred in a "sports car"

A manual equipped car doesn’t need one.

The car is perfect, except for the body.
Ahh, much better. Have you thought about doing the body kit conversion to make it a Trans Am! ?
OR how about the batman body kit?

Nice looking car Dan. Looks like it could do to be lowered a touch...?
What's with the fashion (or otherwise) of covering the engine in modern cars with big black condoms??

@Rocco R16V
RE: manual vs. auto trans, I *really* wanted the 6-speed manual...you can get it with an LSD, but the CFO vetoed that decision.
@ManicCycle
RE: body kits...it's a Chevy, not a Pontiac. The guy who makes that white body kit is local here in Detroit, his shop is in Dearborn not too far from where the dealership is. I'm not a fan of either one of those kits.
@pocketscience
RE: lowering, I agree...my buddy who owns MRT tells me they already have cold air intakes, exhausts, and suspension+lowering kits, so we may be paying him a visit. Thing is, I have to be careful...where do I want to spend my mod-money, on the daily driver or the other projects in my garage!
RE: the plastic engine cladding, I hate it too. I don't know why they can't dress up the engine and make it look cool the way they used to. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

| I like the color combo on that Camaro. I just think those cars are too big! I saw one following a Elise the other and that made it look even bigger! |

I would have gotten the transformers trim option :p
A buddy i work with went to test drive one just a week or so back and said the visibility was rather poor... so in the name of science i must ask.
How IS the visibility ? _________________ -1987 Porsche 924S - my baby stolen by fiancée!

This Camaro is definitely bigger than the vintage cars, but no more so than the comparable modern pony cars (Mustang & Challenger). It is a bit bigger than the 3-series it is replacing...a tad longer, and definitely a wider stance, particularly with the rear haunches. But when you're in it and driving it, it doesn't feel like a big car.
Visibility does take some getting used to. The rear window is pretty small, and the rake of both the windshield and the rear window make them fairly narrow vertically. I was also really concerned about the sideview mirrors, but after getting my bearings in the car, the visibility is not nearly as bad as I first suspected. The design of the quarter window and the B-pillar makes you first think that rearward visibility on the sides is impaired, but when you get on the road and drive it, get used to where things are, it really is not nearly as bad as the first impression.
The view out the front is definitely a bit...cramped, I guess...just because of the narrow opening. My biggest complaint on visibility would be the rearview mirror, which has a large black spot behind it on the windscreen for some sensors. This does impede upward visibility a bit to the right of the driver, particularly at stop lights or when looking at highway signs in close proximity, but it frankly doesn't affect normal driving, and after a day in the car, I barely notice it now.
The car has a nice firm sporty ride for a stock suspension setup. The RS package includes 20x8 and 20x9 polished alu rims clad in Pirelli rubber. This setup probably contributes somewhat to harshness...the ride is not quite as refined as what I'm used to in the BMW, but it is not at all unpleasant. The steering rack seems to be very quick and responsive, and overall handling is quite nice. Biggest complaint on ride would be just a bit of road noise, but again probably attributable to the large sticky tires rather than any inherent flaw in the vehicle itself.
The seats are very comfortable, I felt immediately at home in the cockpit. We had a G6 before the Jeep, so the GM controls were pretty familiar, and I happen to like their ergonomics better than any other manufacturer, foreign or domestic. Everything is where I expect it, intuitive, and provides good feedback, from the wiper and signal stalks, to the cruise controls, to the radio controls, and the climate controls.
The only other nit I have with the design is that for my most comfortable seating position and steering wheel position (it has telescoping and height adjustments), I find that the numerals on the analog speedometer are mostly obscured on the left hand side by the steering wheel itself. I can make this go away by shifting a bit in the seat, but I find my naturally comfortable position puts me in a spot where the numbers from 0-50 are hard to see on the analog speedo. This drawback is mitigated a bit by the central digital display which provides current speed in its default mode. Neither my wife or my dad had the same complaint, so it's probably just me.
However, I really wish they would have put the tach dead center with an analog speedo on the left and the digital display (shows you all the computer info like range, average mpg, tire pressure, etc.) on the right. But it's not that big of a deal to me. I like the way the interior looks and feels otherwise. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |
