Got some gauges on there way to me. We will see when they arrive! I havent seen the PCB close up, it may be a multi layer board, in which case you wont trace them! The econogauge itself will just be a moving coil meter. once i know what kind of voltage gives full scale deflection, i could then look at designing my own circuitry _________________ 924 (84) N/A 2 ltr - 5 Speed - BLACK - Project (looking for 200BHP, any ideas!)

Thank you kindly hon but I like the retro 80s look of the stock yellow on black 944 gauges plus,.. got better things to spend £65 ($100) on.
I want to pass my bike test and build me a low rider! (before I get too old!) _________________ 924 (84) N/A 2 ltr - 5 Speed - BLACK - Project (looking for 200BHP, any ideas!)

Yeah, you have to work your way around the metal band bending it open on the back till you can pull it off. A small screwdriver or a very thick knife blade works. To re-assemble you simply squeeze the metal back down. |

hmm.... taught as much. was hoping for an easer option but will give it a go when I'm feeling patent and methodical. no good me trying unless I'm in the zone. _________________ 924 (84) N/A 2 ltr - 5 Speed - BLACK - Project (looking for 200BHP, any ideas!)

Yeah, it's kind of a PITA. Be careful that you don't cut yourself on the sharp metal edges. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

It's hard work and be careful it's easy to slip. Also beware of damaging the front face of the bezel it's easy to bend when finally prising it off.
I found a small electrical screwdriver was best but a bigger one was quicker! Once the bezel is off straighten the prised out lip with pilers so it goes back together easier.
Bending it back over - I just pinched it in a few places so that next time was easier to get into.

I haven't been sitting in my 924 for a while but... I can't remember any problems with temp gauge readings. I'm above 6 ft tall so my line of site is rather high. And no problems. What I've been doing wrong? _________________ WBR, Shurick

OK then.
this is a poor quality photo of the tach being opened.
This is the back of it once open.
The moving coil part of the econogauge has two wires, Green and White connected to it.
I have removed the one at the top (white) and left the one at the bottom (Green) still connected.
I have clipped a test lead to the bottom terminal.
This is the front without any voltage applied
On this pic below, i have used the other end of test lead and a slightly
flat 1.5volt AA battery (1.2v) to apply power to the top terminal.
This gives Full Scale Deflection (FSD). The needle doesn't go hard
over but does strike the full scale stop, therefore i am gona flatten (discharge)
the battery by 0.5v increments until it gently makes the stop.
This should give me correct FSD Volts,
Once i have the FSD Volts and the pinout data for a vacuum MAP sensor,
i can calculate the correct resistor values for a potential divider circuit (with trim pot for calibration),
to convert the 5volts at 0.1mmHg of vacuum to FSD Volts that will power the moving coil meter,
thus creating an electrical vacuum gauge A.K.A econometer
