so my slight exhaust rattle has matured into a full on cacophonous symphony that is ever so annoying and I'm wondering what the best method is for dampening, adjusting, realigning... etc? _________________ '79 Porsche 924

| sounds like you have an old rusted system, unless you have a welding torch and what not, it is best to just take it to a muffler place and have them replace it, they are one of those things that just goes and cant be fixed just has to be replaced. |

well I should add that I recently removed the whole exhaust before replacing my shift linkage bushings... it was rattling before that but only slightly... and the catalytic converter shield was pretty bad so I just removed it... there is, however some kind of a heat shield above that muffler that's pretty rusty and loose... but that isn't the soul source of the sound...
so did I not reinstall in properly or should I be looking to replace this thing and if so, what would you estimate I'm looking at? _________________ '79 Porsche 924

| if im looking at the right thing on dcauto.com it looks like it will cost around 70$ for the new heat shield and, if you replace it in and around 100 for the new tail pipe. you may also need mounts which should be in the 40$ range. bad mounts have been on my list of things to repair for a long time, some of them look like pieces one can get from home depot or your local hard ware store. |
