Progress is really slow on the car, but I am now ready to rip off all the old suspension parts to install all the 944 suspension and related parts, and wondering where is the most recommended placement for the front and rear axle stands when you are removing everything?
Any good advice and pictures would be appreciated... _________________ Kroggers

To remove the rear suspension (Torsion bar carrier and so on) I used the factory jacking points on the end of the cills with a big piece of wood to spread the load. Normally I avoid these points like the plague but its only going to get lighter as you go. I have had the torsion bar carrier out twice using these points.
The front I'd use the chassis rails under the car, they are pretty strong. as far forward as you can. _________________ 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 - Work in progress...

Cool, thank you Rich...
If I am to use the rear jack points for the stand, what do I use as jacking points?
Probably a stupid question _________________ Kroggers

Jack up the rear end using the tranny. You can put stands under the big round poles that stick out into the rear wheel wells.
In the front jack up on the crossmember and put stnads under the frame rails. _________________ 1980 924 NA

This is good stuff, thank you all.
So I can jack up the rear using the transmission, and place stands at the white arrow points. For the front, would you do it one side at a time, or jack from a central point in one go? _________________ Kroggers

I put the jack under the casting below the outer torsion bar carrier bolts and place the stands on the arms just a little way inboard from there, the casting is thick ali.
I dislike jacking on the gearbox as I don't like the idea of jacking on a relatively thin ali casting. I know guys do all over the place and I've never heard of one failing, but I just don't like it.
For the front I jack one side at a time. You can jack on the crossmember in the middle if you want but the undertray must be off first. _________________ 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 - Work in progress...

Thank you Rich, I put the car up this morning. Did it one side at a time. I can not use any of the suspension points for the stands, as I will be removing it all for clean-up and replacement. Therefore I had to find a location on the main frame for the stands. I opted to use the points marked with the white arrows for the stands. _________________ Kroggers
