My car has a very low oil pressure ( 2 bar at 3500 Rpm in 3 rd gear)
This happend from one day to another, what couldt be the cause?
Are oilpumps failing slowly or do they die instantly? Also it shows a kind of rough idle when cold, sort of cutting out ignition ...??
Normally it idles at 950 and pressure was at 4-5 bar when cold, now i only got 50% of that value. Any clues?
Driving is like normal, but these low readings make me nervous.......

After you verify your readings mith as mechanical gauge, as suggested by Joe C, smell your oil cap to make sure it isn't contaminated by fuel.

What weight oil are you using?

Thin/light weight oil will give yield low oil pressure when hot.

You should be using 20W/50, and conventional motor oil will give you higher oil pressure than synthetic.

Thank you for the responses, i checked for fuel smell- thats not it.
Then i took out my gauge cluster (replaced all the def.lamps) and sprayed a lot of wd40 into it, build it back in and.....
yes, fine readings on the voltmeter and oil pressure.
Great thing to know pressure was and is good!

thanks again, N obbi

This just happen to me yesterday. I drove my car around for about 10-15 min after 8hrs of changing the motor mounts, 4-5 bar the whole time. I came home, turned it off and then about 5mins later I turned it on to jump start a friends car, it idled about 8-10min and when I got in it, I was at 1.5-2 bar. Is my car over heating? I don't think my fans work, because I have never seen them on when my engine is warmed up/hot. I don't have a working temp gauge yet, and now that summers around the corner I'm worried about overheating. Wouldn't my pressure drop if the oil is too hot?

1.5 bar at hot idle is normal.
To check your fans, join the wires on the temp switch on the radiator.
They should come on slow and if you turn on the ign, fast.
