Sneak preview of my Brembo brake calipers, which are in the process of being rebuilt:
They're not quite done yet, the vendor had some issues sourcing the scraper rings and some other bits. Also, the PORSCHE script will be scrubbed of the paint and polished. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Do you have pictures, how you mounted the front sway bar to the old style chassis ? _________________ 937 trackday car

I will be doing this job on the Club Sport within the next week or so, and I will be sure to document the process. The late style drop links need to be attached to the frame spare about an inch or two closer to the firewall, behind the original early-style "saddle" used for the stock bar. My intent is to use what are called "rivnuts", "nutserts", or "rivet nuts". I will drill two holes in the appropriate location on each frame spar, and use the special "rivnut" tool to insert the "rivnuts". It is a way of installing captive nuts into a blind hole. Should actually be quite simple, I think. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Those things aren't strong enough, IMO. Thought about having nuts welded to the tub instead? _________________ Toofah King Bad

Rivet nuts definitely won't work, I have done that, that they are to weak and will not hold for long. There is a lot of forse on the straps and even more if you use poly bushes.
I think there are two way's:
1)One is to cut the old bracket of the chassis en weld a thick 'L' strap on it and tap die in it.
2) the other one just make a big metal strip like below, it looks easy but I haven't tried it myself:

Interesting...I'm curious what the failure mode was...?
That being the case, it sounds like welding will be involved. Either drill some holes and weld nuts over them, or weld some bolts onto the frame spar. I don't want to permanently affix the straps for (hopefully) obvious reasons. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I would cut a piece out of the box section and weld in another boxed piece with the attachment points you want. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Might I suggest ditching these for Ground Control units? I am VERY happy with both sets I got. Low level set on Shaggy, high end set on Red (with integrated shock tower mounts. . .sexy!). _________________ Toofah King Bad

Haha, long gone, and already done. Have GC plates in both the Club Sport and the Wide Body now. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

First I tried with rivut nuts, then a small steel plate with tread (see picture) that didn't hold either.
Later I got a 'L' piece of steel and welded it al a round, that was fine.

The rivnuts expand around the diameter when you set them but only a small distance around the diameter. I use these quite a bit but they will pull out with the bar. The metal is very thin on the frame rails so you need to add support. The 944's have an insert in the frame rail that is very heavy to back up the bar mounts.
It would be the same if you tried to use a Carrera GTS torsion tube in a late car. (77.5 and up) The structure isn't there to hold the bolts. _________________ 84 944--924 Carrera GTS clone w/520HP Chevy 302 V8--RUNNING!
