I presume it's a simple matter of bypassing the variable resistor in the switch but I can't see how to get the switch out of the panel. I've tried to pop it out with a screwdriver but this isn't working and I don't want to put any marks on the panel. Do I need to remove the rev counter and go through this way? Also, has anybody had any success installing brighter lights in the rev counter etc? _________________ 924gt.com |

To remove the switch, you can simply reach up from underneath, there are two ear-style clips that hold in place, one on top and one on bottom. Squeeze the clips and pull back (toward the front of the car), then fish the switch and harness down beneath the dash to where you can get to it. It's easiest to do this with the driver door fully open, and on your knees or squatting outside of the car.
As for brighter lights, here in the US, Sylvania make bulbs that are the same size and style but a slightly higher rating. I've done this on my 81 NA, and it did make a noticeable improvement, although they're still not as bright as a modern dash. The other alternative is to do a full-on LED replacement for all of your interior lights, which is the path I would go if I were starting from scratch. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Hey NSA,
What did you end up doing with your dash lights?
I just ran a wire across so the dimmer does not function. My dashlights actually work now. Also I had trouble with the odometer not working, when I took it out I could see why there was a dull spot one of the bulb holes was empty with tape over it.
Pulled the speedo on the parts car and it was the same took a spare holder and wired it in. Now the lights are great.

Not yet, but I'm sure jumping the variable resistor will work. I just couldn't see how to get into the switch. My car is parked away from my house and I haven't been to see it yet. Too cold in London to go anywhere unnecessarily at the moment. _________________ 924gt.com |
