UPDATE
Yesterday, Larry and I made the trek out to the east side of Cleveland and dropped off the block, an NA head (thanks Chris Marsh!), a 931 head, and a sample Goetz composite head gasket. We also got the nickel tour while we were there Very nice folks at Cometic, things seem to be progressing very nicely.
I got an email from Cometic yesterday confirming that all quoted Thk's are at compressed state.
On a side note, this was also the first major road trip for GEBLASN, and she performed flawlessly. We ended up going 2 hours out of our way because we missed the Google maps directional to switch over from the Turnpike to I-90. We stayed on I-80 too long, and ended up about an hour south of where we were supposed to be. But that turned out OK because we got some nice driving on some back-country roads. All in all, we got 8 hours of driving in on the new 931, and went through about a tank and a half. I measured 22.6 MPG on our first fill up, so I was pretty happy with that!

INVOICING
Since we are closing in on our number, I am going to get started on invoicing. I really need to have all funds by 15 Feb because this order is going to progress much more quickly than the ARP rod bolts. Once the geometry is completed and I sign the purchase order, it's only going to take 2-3 weeks for them to produce the parts, so prompt payments will be greatly appreciated. Please attend to the invoices as timely as possible, because it takes 3-4 business days for me to transfer funds from PayPal into the commercial bank account that I'll be using to remit payment to Cometic.
As noted earlier, I will be adding the 4% paypal tax to your invoices. If you prefer to avoid the add'l fees, I am OK with other forms of certified payment (postal money order or cashier's check). For international buyers, however, I would prefer to just use PayPal due to currency conversion logistics and timeliness. For North American buyers, I will consider personal checks on a case by case basis only, so if you are unwilling or unable to do paypal or certified funds, CALL ME to discuss.
I am still going to issue all invoices via paypal because it helps me manage the shipping logistics later on, so even if you choose an alternative payment method, you will be getting a paypal invoice. My snail mail address and phone number should be visible on the paypal invoice, which you can use if you choose an alternative payment method. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Shurick, so that will take your total for now up to four?
Certainly not too late, there's definitely time to add more. And there's no harm in trying to get the numbers up beyond 50 as well. I'd rather delay things by a week or so and get 60 or 70 guys in on a single buy than to have to try putting together a much smaller buy later on. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Are Cometic willing to pass on their reduced unit price due to economies of scale for orders in excess of the original 50 quoted for? |

The price he quoted was for qty of 100 even though they're only requiring 50, so I think we're at about the lowest price point we're going to get @ these numbers. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Sure.
And a question... Are Cometic going to produce our group buy and close the production for next one? Or this head gaskets will be avaliable in their prodiction for purchases? _________________ WBR, Shurick

Shurick, not an easy answer to that one. Cometic made it clear that they are not in the business of producing one-offs. We discussed this yesterday when we were onsite at their facility, and the comment was that the initial challenge is getting the machining setup to produce these. It's been on their to-do list for some time, but the recent interest and group buy was enough to elevate this to a production time table.
That being said, this will become a standard catalog item for them. I do not know if they are intending to do an add'l run and stock these for future one-off purchases, but it didn't sound that way to me. It sounded more like they were intending to do our parts run...basically, my company is being setup as the customer. If any more are to be produced in the future, it would presumably have to be a sufficiently sized order to justify the tooling change. Granted, they won't have to reproduce the tooling so their up front cost may be somewhat lower, but it may still be difficult to get small runs of 20 or less gaskets.
Bottom line, unless a conventional retailer agrees to participate, there is no guarantee these will be available in small quantities in the future, even if it becomes a catalog item. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Hiya Dan. I'm sure you invoiced me for five - I can't call up the actual Paypal a/c anymore, and don't have actual figures of costs. Do the maths please as you have actuals. I just paid the a/c, but I'm sure it stated 5 x gaskets and 5 x freight.
If it is five then I'll take 'em.
Cheers and thanks PLD |
