|
|
Hi guys, well in an attempt to keep my car stock by enhance Im gonna try and and MP3 functionality to a stock radio with cassete player. I plan on using the cassete player as my audio inpu and where the lid goes to put the MP3 player screen and somehow fit the player controls to the ones in the radio. what do you guys think, is there something similar around?
Im looking at players over the net that will have a memory car slot so I can load a good amount of music and still be interchangeable, and be with the buttons and proper size screen, some new stereos have a USB plug where you can connect an external HD but not sure how to accomplish this, got any looks on MP3's that might fit? thanks |

You can get those tapes that have a 3.5mm stereo lead coming from them to plug into an mp3 player... you could run the lead out the back of the head unit. _________________ 1979 931 with a 350 chev

get the wireless fm transmitter, belkin makes a pretty good one. then just plug your mp3 player into that...the cassette adapters can click annoyingly.. _________________ Eric

Monster makes a great one. Don't go cheap. . .the cheap ones lack X-mit power for reliable operation. _________________ Toofah King Bad

If you go with a cassette adapter, you will be limited to the fidelity that the cassette heads in the deck can transfer. Usually, the frequency range on those is something abysmal like 400 Hz - 8000 Hz. You'll never get the thumping low end or sizzling highs with that approach. I third the motion for an FM transmitter, and as Rasta suggested, don't scrimp. Buy the best one you can afford, you won't regret it. Some of the good ones even have memory locations so as you drive around different hot spots in town, you can switch from one station to another. Whatever you do, don't get the stupid ones that require you to load software on your iPod because you have to futz with the iPod itself if you want to change stations, not something I'd recommend attempting while driving a stick. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

+4 on the FM transmiter, it's will be a clean install and like Ideola noted the cassette adapters sound worse. _________________ Rick

true, Ill see some of those sound great, I as for the cassette adaptor I was thinking in linking directly to the head reader thing sound wires, and make the mpe player and insert into the radio, but if it looks difficult I will defenetly go with the FM transmitter. cus like you said Ideola, I dont wanna be messing with it while I drive,
Thanks all for the input. |

I'll +5 or whatever we're up to now on the FM transmitter option. However i'd also ask is there a reason you're trying so hard to keep the car stock? Will it be entered into comps? _________________ 77 NA 924

I have a really good FM Transmitter option but the problem I run into is living in a city is is almost impossible to find a clear station to use. If I do, within 5 minutes it gets run over by another station.
Once I'm outside the city though, it works great!! _________________ 1977 924 N/A Martini Edition |

the car isnt gonna be in competitions any time soon, still needs a good interior restouration, but I defenetly like to seeit stock, and clean I live in the border in El Paso texas/ Juarez, Mexico, and in juarez so far there is only another member besides me who has a 924. I've seen like 6 in El Paso, well I like when people come close and askme is that a real Porsche, what year is it, so besides just being married, finishing clinical work, and getting the house ready my goal is to get my 924 looking A+, though It'll take me time,
changed all the belts yesterday, and voltage regulator. for some reason the timing belt tends to move towards the from of the vehicle and was making a swkeeking noise. took me some time to stop that.
As for the radio, I like the old style, thanks too Ideola Im one step closer. thanks.
and the MP3 I like to have the option to play my own songs and twist some heads when they ask me can it play MP3's LoL, Ill take some pics and post them |
