I have an '87 924s, the passenger power window does not work properly, I have the window partially down but cant get it back up now. I believe the problem is located in the motor that raises and lowers the window, the drivers side works fine but neither switch for the passenger side will work now.
How can I get the window and lifter back into the up position... Do I have to tear the entire door panel apart to do this or is there an easier way? just raising the glass by hand does not work as it keeps falling back down everytime I hit a bump. |

Could be an electrical problem? Mine had a tendency to go up and down fine sometimes and then other times it wouldn't respond to either switch at all. _________________ 1988 924S Navy Blue - Phone Dials |

If you can raise the glass by hand, this suggests a mechanical problem. Do you have an electrical problem in addition? -As in no motor sound when you hit the buttons..? These cars handle very well - you should raise the glass by hand, then be able to avoid bumps with the crisp handling.
The correct fix will involve removal of the door panel. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

I can raise the glass by hand, I do believe it is an electrical problem a thte motor in the door... The switches occassionally worked but havent worked very well to put the window down much. I have avoided using that window forr quite some time now but accidently lowered it the other night about 3/8 inch and now I cant get it back up at all with the switches. I can raise it by hand but the conditions of the roads where I live are so deplorable, to the point that you almost require a heavy duty truck with a beefed up suspension to drive them, that the window keeps falling back down.
I figured I would have to take apart the door panel to do this... how much work is invloved in doing this.. from quickly looking at the door it appears that I have to take the whole thing apart... |

It isn't too difficult.
First, there are two screws with caps on them that you have to remove (both are located at the top of the door panel at both ends of the door). Also, unscrew the plastic cap on the lock rod (the piece you push down to lock the door).
Second, remove the screw behind the latch pull. You have to pop out the plastic cup that covers it, first, with a flat head screw driver.
Third, remove the screws in the armrest and in the base of the map pocket (should be three in each location).
Fourth, use a panel removal tool (like this) and pop the panel loose.
Fifth, and last (and somewhat tricky), pull up and out on the panel. The top of the arm rest is secured to the door by a tight-fitting L-shaped bracket (this bracket is NOT screwed to the door). This bracket has to be lifted up out of a hole in the inner door skin. It will work best if the main force is applied at door pull. However, it doesn't take a lot of force to get it out, mostly just tricky wiggling.
BTW, all the screws should be Phillips head _________________ '87 924S |

Thanks Ronined,
I actually managed to ge tthe window and lifter back in the up position by banging on the door panel near the bottom, this had worked in the past but didn't seem to want to this time. Anyways, the window is now back up all the way. Whenever i have a chance to get it into a garage I'll pull the door panel and see if I can't figure out the problem with it. |

When I test drove mt car, the windows worked fine. Next day, the right window would not go up, and I couldn't pull it up. Turns out the switch in the driver's door is not right, had been repaired recently, but it didn't hold.
However, simultaneously pressing the switch on both doors does the trick.
Since both windows go through the driver's door, in essence you have a dual switch circuit. Therefore, keep in mind that, for the right window, the switch problem could be on either door. _________________ Mark

Ja, most likely a switch problem. I used to have to smack the drivers' door panel while holding the switch to get the window to move - eventually replaced the switch, and no more smacking required...
-So although we all seem to need to pull the door apart eventually to deal with some elect. window problem, I'd say it isn't necessary for your current problem - just replace the switch (approx $25 when I got one 1-2 years ago). _________________ "..it's made in Germany. A couple of pointers:
The switches take full current for the motors so they carbon up real quick, especially as the motor grease dries out and the motors rust up and te required current goes up so the motor current goes up and the switches carbon up even quicker!! Pull them apart over a table (Springy bits fly out) and de-coke them, clean the contacts with a mild abrasive ideally a fiberglass pencil
Also there is a plug in the A pillar (Where the door bolts to) that comes unstuck that is worth checking.
While the door is in bits it is also a good idea to free up the motor is a load of grease will make the windows loads faster and more efficient!
