|
|
I know these pumps are known to make a racket but mine is starting to bug me and the wife hates being in the car because of it,especially in slow traffic i have to crank the stereo up.It doesn't sound laboured or starved of fuel,just a loud constant buzz I've seen pedestrians turn and look to see what the noise is.The car runs fine and it's been like this since i got it about 2 months ago.The guy i bought it from said it was normal.
I have the option of changing it for a Sytec - is this a worthwhile swap (as regards noise reduction and reliability),or can i sleeve my pump in foam?
cheers,
Ade. _________________ 1983 924 N/A |

Your pump is is trying to be nice to you, it is warning you that it is about to die an leave you stranded. Replace it with a new one, both Bosch and Pierburg make a CIS pump for our systems. A regular EFI or carb pump won't push nearly the pressure you need. The pumps are always a bit loud and buzzy, but certainly not something pedestrians should notice. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Thanks for that....
The reason i say Sytec is that i've been told by fuel systems supplier Glencoe that the Sytec FP604 is a replacement for the original and i may have one to hand,
but,i may have imagined it but did someone on here say to avoid Sytec for some reason?
Also,if my in-tank pump stopped working would that make the external pump noisy?(or would the car have stopped running by now anyway?)
I'm getting a 12v feed to the in-tank pump - should i be able to feel/hear it running?
Thanks. _________________ 1983 924 N/A |

Yes, if your in tank pump dies your external pump will be working harder and may be noisier. If you replace one, you might as well replace both, the in-tank is the cheaper of the two. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Is it possible you are missing the fuel pump silencer? It runs between the hose from the tank, and the external fuel pump. I think it is a little black thing that forms a 90 degree angle. I did some research on it because my pump wasn't working at all. I want to say the silencer is somewheres around $38...hope it helps
Edit-I did a quick search...heres a topic I made some time ago about the silencer...http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=26508&highlight= _________________ =====>Alex<=====
