I was just wondering though about the gt racing headlamp conversion kit, people have said that the fiberglass kist is not very good and you have to make adjustments to get it to fit right. what im wondering is if the carbon fiber kit they offer would be better and you wouldnt need to make adjustments. i know its expensive and i could make it myslef but it would be a present for me so if the carbon fiber one is good then i would really like to get it.

thanks
nick

Pretty much any f'glass or carbon piece is going to require some fitment. In fact, the f'glass might be a little easier to work with because you can sand/cut/shape it and I think that's a lot harder with the carbon (you split it or crack it and you're done...). You buy the carbon for weight.

So, I'm not sure how much of a problem it really is, in fact, you probably want a little adjustability to make the part fit right...

I'm planning to fabricate buckets with lightweight sheet aluminum. Mocked up in posterboard first, of course, for the template. But my lights won't have the dated rectangular headlights, they're going to have dual 3" HID projector lamps. The buckets will be reinforced underneath with a bracket for mounting the headlights, and I will be using macBdog's approach for making the lenses.

Funny, I plan on doing much the same as Dan - GTS lights with HID's. But I already have the plexi covers.

Hey, today's car is an exact copy of mine or is it the other way around?
Years ago bought the headlight buckets from GT Racing at considerable cost and they were pure crap! Poorly made, poorly finished and different sizes left to right. Ended up cutting and altering to get them to fit and still not really happy with the result.
By chance about a year ago a bought a few parts from macBdog and spied the aluminium ones he had made. First class workmanship! And since then I haven't found his "how to".
Have to say the twin round lights look great and would have to offer significantly more light than the horrible rectangular ones we have all used in the past, particularly when the bottom third is obscured by bodywork. But somehow it just doesn't look kosher.
Dan, I hope you keep us posted on exactly what HID lights you end up using - ie off what car?
Cheers Pete

Haven't settled yet on a specific fixture, and I set this part of the project to the back burner a while ago, so I don't have any recent updates. However, for starters, I was looking at some of the Hella fixtures some time ago. This page has some interesting fixtures that I think would work. There may be other options now, but as I said, I haven't made a final decision yet, just have an idea of the direction I want to go.

PIAA also make some very interesting and suitable fixtures...

Been following this thread on Rennlist. These are a bit spendy, but man-o-man do they look fantastic. Take a look:

Browsed the thread, awesome work, but I didn't see a price anywhere. Can you elucidate, Dan?
