I'm installing a water cooled turbo onto one of the 924's I'm dealing with, however we're having a bit of difficulty determining the best location to get water pressure to the turbo from. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

From what I've read here, the 951 uses an electric water pump to circulate coolant after shutdown. -And the 951s' coolant expansion tank has an extra port/s for turbo cooling.

To cool it from the existing 924 cooling system, I think I'd tap in after #11, or after #12 in the diagram on Haynes pg.59. -Or for a cooler coolant source, -if- there's a coolant drain port on the block, feed the turbo from there and return it after #11.

I talked to bassgt about this a bit in private awhile ago, he mentioned that after the water leaves the head its no longer pressurized which means we would be unable to get it from 11 or 12, what are your thoughts on that?

Min,

Not sure this is ideal for a water cooler turbo however. They rely on the water primarily to cool the unit. The oil is solely to lubricate. I think the issue is that wherever you take the feed from, there will be a negligable pressure difference across the in and out connections. I would recommend fitting a small electric pump to fed into the turbo, and return that feed after the head/block into the rad. The major advantage is that you can run the pump with the engine off, which will prevent turbo damage or oil coking.

Why not just use a 951 electric pump, plumbing & tank? They even have a little shutdown timer and relay.

to get coolant to the turbo use something like this...
Block Coolant port adaptor:
http://www.034motorsport.com/product_info.php?cPath=28_63&products_id=477

and for the return ...

Tap into the engine coolant out to radiator neck like audi does or splice into the hose....

Also I should mention Audi uses a electric pump for after-run that is tied into a thermo switch, also on the coolant neck. These are junkyard parts and probably much cheaper to purchase then the 951 units

I sent them a contact us message to find out what size that plug is for sure. Before buying it.

Well, that is about .027" crush and I just measured a 1 5\8" plug (~41mm) and it has about .015" crush so ya, it would be a very tight squeeze.

small enough? If I search for a freeze plug for my audi and for my porsche I get the same thing, said to be 36mm.

Now if that one if 36.7mm, I figure that sense the plugs are a pressed fit to seal in the block they might have to be slightly bigger before they're driven in. Make sense ?

I tried to pound a 36.5mm frost plug into the 36mm hole on my 924 block, wouldn't go in. Perhaps I'm mistaken, I'll go buy a new 36mm frost plug and measure it.
