They should be the same. (Euro 931 vs. 944 S 2.5 16V front calipers) _________________ Mikko

they do that Paul
these came off a 83 244 saloon
the bolt holes are the same but use the porsche bolts as the pitch on the volvo is different.
had to make up a little adapter because the volvo has two brake lines running into them , and had to trim the stone gaurde a little
these are on my 78 924 N/A with a 5 bolt conversion from a 81 931. At the time of fitting the volvo brakes I replaced the N/A master cylinder and booster with a 951 (944 turbo) setup, but should be fine with a 931 set up.
the volvo calipers weigh about the same as the porsche but are designed to pull up over two tonne of top grade Swedish steel and they do it well

Is this just for the fronts, or do the Volvo rears bolt up as well? _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

buy the bottem dollar rebuild kit ..
you dont get a bore seal causeit looks like theres only 2 items

The back brakes are probably allready the same, Volvo back brakes got used on lots.
I just removed a set of these 4 piston Volvo callipers from a 264. From what i have read elsewhere you can block off one of the brake lines as they use the same channel. that way you don't need create a block that goes 1-2.
will find out in the next month i hope |

Hey thanks Tas931 for digging up this thread. There`s nuggets of gold buried under tons of tailings and crap on this board. Thanks also crunchie 57 for taking the initial jump on this.
Started checking things out myself and there are heaps of different 4pot calipers used on various Volvos through years and across models. Different size pads too. No idea on differences in piston sizes yet but IMO really worth looking into that more.
The Volvo calipers appear to all be 2 piston units. Rock Auto catalog is a useful source of checking compatibility & interchange of parts. Some basic googling gave me these links on modding the calipers to a single line. Apparently the cylinders are linked by drilling 2 joining holes while one port is blocked.

The Volvo dual braking system with these 2 port calipers was used for years up to ABS. No doubt this was a good effective system. The two front and one rear caliper are connected to each independent hydraulic circuit. Intend to investigate this further, along with piston sizes and proportioning. Perhaps our resident brake engineer here can offer more.
Keep us posted of your progress. Sure others besides me are also interested. |

There were three different types of Volvo 240 brakes:
• Lucas-Girling, Disc thickness [mm] 22, Brakehose connections 2, Piston diameter [mm] 38 (The pictures does show a 4-pot caliper)
• ATE, Disc thickness [mm] 14.3, Piston diameter [mm] 36
• ATE, Disc thickness [mm] 24, Piston diameter [mm] 36
The disc was 263 mm and the thicker ones ventilated. _________________ Carl Fredrik Torkildsen

thought you might like to see that.
Once i finish putting my Turbo back together (pray i have the right size bearings) i reckon i will try drilling the calliper and blocking off one break line as opposed to getting a 1-2 block. If all goes well i will post pics. |

I will measure them up soon. Unfortunately it will be on a bathroom scale but it should show any huge differences.
I Cleaned up the rest of my turbo bits last night, while talking to the fella there i found out that he has drilled the volvo callipers before for his son. so i'll try and get some help from him and take pics. |
