this is kinda like a poll, but i think the best year of the 924 is a 1977 with a fresh 4 speed tranny.

Pffft... what are you retarded?! '81 Turbo all the way! Or a Carrera GT ('81 only, I think?)

I wouldn't pay $300 for a 77, fresh tranny or not.

nah...the best year for a 924 is.....83 NA with 951 suspension&brakes...a 931 S2 intercooled engine....so...basicaly a CGT i think the CGT is the best 924...quick..sexy and somewhat modern.

i would not buy a 77 for several reasons:

1. no galvanisation..this means rust
2. too old engine
3. too old tranny(4 gear)
4. it looks old...look at a late model...it looks nice and somehow modern even today.

actualy i would not buy a 924 anymore if i had to buy a sports car...i would go for a 968 a boxter or a bmw z4 coupe.

Hm, 924 with breakerless ignition would be nice, wich meens 80 or 81. But then you cant get the cooler gearbox. Hm, hard choice.

On the turbo side it would be a pre 81. The 81- is a bit to high tech, the older one have more 70´s turbocharged spirit.

And the Pasha interior is the shit !

In the US all 924s had breakerless ignition and the floor pans were galvanized even on the early years.

I just happened to buy an 82.5 and have been really glad that I did as they made changes in each year. The updated console (924S style), three spoke steering wheel, hood strut mounts, "Porsche" lettering in the door panels, are just some examples of the changes made over time.

Yep, you had the breakerless ignition, Why didnt they put it on all cars when they obviosly had it working ?. But on the other hand, you got the low power engines, cat , and the butt ugly bumpers

Not putting breakerless ignition in the EURO Market cars from the beginning was a marketing decision. The breakerless ignition costed more than the conventional/points ignition. US Market cars also had to make emissions specs, which was not required by the EURO Market at the time, and the more accurate breakerless ignition was required to make the mileage/service requirements of the US emissions specs.

Porsche Marketing has a history of making mistakes erquipping the cars. Look at the way that the initial US Market 931s were supplied with rear drum brakes.

I like the look of the american bumper more than the Euro one, I think the Euro one is to complicated. As for the best year of 924, I would go with the 1982 Turbo. It was probably the best mechanicaly (because of the updated turbocharger) as for a normally aspirated model, i would go with the 1979. It had the five speed and, a few extra horse power.
