I do believe you're right... I think I can make out the shape of a couple of cars. Must've been looking at it cross-eyed.

The lincoln has a failing auto tranny, needs new wheel bearings, already has rust, needs fuel pump, brakes, fuel pressure regulator and who knows what else. I read about 10 pages of reviews, 99% said the car is a lemon. I want to rid myself of this problematic car asap.

Sounds like a steal. I would be surprised if your Lincoln was worth $50.00 from your description.

You can't say that you're paying $6k for the 924 if the dealer is willing to do a straight up trade -- you can only say that if you honestly think you could sell your "POS 2001 Lincoln LS" for $6k.

These cars can be had for dirt cheap, but occasionally someone who isn't familiar with these cars previously ends up paying way more than the going rate. I know that lots of the people who pay way more than the going rate feel like they got a great car and didn't get ripped off, except for when they hear these stories that come up once in a while about these killer deals that are available.

So, if I were in your position, I'd be willing to give the dealership a bunch of cash in addition to your POS, regardless of the fact some people manage to get amazing examples for $500.00 from time to time.

One thing to consider however, is if it's a '77 or '77.5. It was in this year when they changed the valves in the head to give the '77.5 and up a fair bit more power.

And, I can't imagine a 30 year old car being driven less than 2k miles a year.

Incedentaly, my car (a '78) has a spedometer (and odometer) from an '82 in it from when I bought it, and the odometer was broken when I got it. I know it's from an '82 because that's what was written on the back when I fixed it. So, although it says there's 37k miles on it, I know that it's a meaningless number for a 30 year old car. In my opinion, the mileage doesn't matter on something that old.

Looking at the wear on the pedals is more informative than trying to guess how many times the odometer should have rolled around, provided it didn't break.

I would much rather have a porsche 924 in any shape than the most expensive Lincoln built. However, 6k for a 924 is like everybody said, ALOT!

I recently saw a 944 TURBO go for 5999 just a few hours away from me. If you get a 6k 924, and dump another 6k onto it, you still wont have the equivelant of a 944 turbo. And for 12k you can get a 944 turbo S that will go 160mph. That... is why 6k is high.

But any porsche in any condition is better than any lincoln in any condition. HA

its still has the original dust covers over the rotors, very good sign, wonder if it has the belly pan as well? Besides the bird poop on the front bumper(hopefully thats all it is), i cant really see any signs that its been seriously abused. couple of dings in the front valence, very normal, rockers look pretty good, and it has the rear wiper option on a non spoiler hatch which could mean its a pretty original car that hasn't been tampered with too much.. or they have a great detailer.. but youll find out soon enough either way.
i remain firm that price is irrelevant in this case, they could put 10k on it, who cares, as long as they're willing to take your car and give you that one, even if it cost a few hundred out of pocket to make them feel better (but battle them at every turn) it appears to worth it.
just dont have any illusion that you could turn around and resell it for anything near the window price they want. as long as you get out of it what you think your Lincoln is "really" worth, and it runs well. you win..

Actually, I think the bird-poo may be just another reflection. I shall keep you all informed when I go to see it tomorrow. How do I tell if it's a
77 or a '77.5? And the belly pan, is the the cover that goes on the underside of the car under the engine-bay?

If the car is in exellent condition, 1 owner, well kept, no visible damage in and outside i would say its worth the 6000.-$
Here in germany prices for the 924 s are going up right now.
i guess you could get 6000 euros for it here.

Nobbi

Ps: Never heard about any valve dimension change. And i learned a lot in my 20 years driving my 924. (4/1977)

Over there the price seems to be a little steep..

On the other hand over here, it is a price i would jump to.. heck a 1995 Hyundai accent costs $6000 over here.. A 1999 Mazda MX-5 will set you back $20000. Heck there is a 2002 Mini Cooper for sale over here at the moment at a sweet $36,650.

It makes me cry how cheap such cool cars are over there

According to my manual, 1976 - 1977.5 ha an intake valve diameter of 38.0mm, and 1977.5 on had an intake valve diameter of 40.0mm.

Exhaust valve size remained at 33.0mm throughout.

I would buy that ebay 951 sight unseen before laying down the cash on the 924 that's at the start of this thread. Popular colour on the ebay car too.

Not bird poo, there are 2, one on each side. those are... HEADLIGHT WASHERS! A rare option.

The question is only 2 layers deep.

1. Is it worth that much to YOU?

2. Will it stay running for you?

Admittedly, it is in MUCH better than average shape.
