Are there many other '82 models with limited slip differential out there? If you have one, say yep! _________________ Mikko

Short of laying some rubber on the road, how can i check if i have LSD?
Can i jack up the car and rotate a wheel and see which way the other wheel turns?
Is there a special number stamped anywhere?
Sorry, not very mechanical. Bodywork yeah , mechanics nah. _________________ 1982 Porsche 931 (Sold)

Highly highly unlikely to find a US S2 931 with LSD. From 1981-onward, all US 931s got the Audi based gearbox. I've heard that LSD was an available special order option for the S2 cars, but frankly I'm skeptical that it was available on US cars. It may have only been an option for ROW cars which retained the G31. I have NEVER seen a US-spec S2 with LSD. Not saying they weren't out there, certainly could have been special ordered, but as I said, I've never seen or even heard of one. In fact, I've never seen or heard of an Audi gearbox with LSD prior to the 1986 951. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

| I had an 82 N/A with LSD. Light blue w/tan interior 4 lug spiderwebs with a 931 rear spoiler. I bought it from the original owner that told me he bought it off of a dealer lot. I have no clue what happened to it because it was my ex-wifes car (before we got divorced) and she took it with her. |

I have to concur , ive not seen any 81-82 cars with LSD, very rare birds indeed. My 82 931 was ordered with about every available option and still no lsd. with the rare marketing package and sports groups, i tend to think if the original owner could have had an lsd, he would of. _________________ Eric

| I think Porsche did this on purpose. The Cayman doesn't have a LSD because it would be as fast as the 911. I guess the 944 was coming soon and the rest was history. Ford and Chevy did this too. The 1990 Mustang was rated at 225 hp and in 1993 it was 205 and the Cobra was 230hp....why??? The Tuned port engine was "detuned" (underated) a year before the release of the LT1 motor. |

Well my car is the other way around. I doesn't have basically any options, even windows are operated manually. But the first owner had ordered limited slip differential. Maybe he was a race car driver. _________________ Mikko

Do you also have the little box instead of radio ? I even saw that box on a swedish carrera GT, thats really weird for a expensive car like that. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

Well there is a black plastic shield covering the radio mounting hole. It can be pulled out if one would like to install radio. But no speakers in front, back speakers are in the usual spot. _________________ Mikko

Just my 2 cents...
At least in the German options pricelist for 1981 S2 models the LSD is listed and its not even very expensive compared to some of the other options... I wander why it hasn't been a popular choise
Below prices are in 1980 Deutsch Mark... but you get the idea by comparing the figures
Sperrdifferenzial 40 % (LSD), Option #220, Price 990 DM
Schmiedefelgen 6Jx16 (Trashcans with tires) mit Reifen 205/55 VR 16, Option #395, Price 2.490 DM
Kälteanlage (AC), Option #573, Price 2.250 DM
Herausnehmbares Dach (Sunroof), Option #650, Price 960 DM
I guess Mikko you are one lucky dude! _________________ 931 S2, 1981 |

Hope you get the problems sorted out ... so we can have the first annual local 931 meet
I have only driven my car to service and from there to the paint shop... so my car doesn't get a lot of mileage either _________________ 931 S2, 1981 |
