Quick question. I am replacing my front struts. The struts currently on the car were from the factory and filled with oil. Do I need to refill and continue to use oil in the strut (replacing with kyb) and if so what type of oil is it? Thanks.

Some people add ATF to the strut assembly to assist in dissipating heat. Probably optional.

The original factory struts use the strut body as the outside of the shock cartridge, and the shaft and valve will be discarded and replaced by the new strut insert. When you unscrew the old cap and remove the assembly, don't pour out the oil. Simply drop your new insert in, and let any excess oil pour out over the top. If your strut has lost too much oil, and supplement with a light weight motor oil (or whatever fresh motor oil you have laying around).

The oil is used to transfer the heat that is generated by the shock inserts motion to the outside of the strut body to be dissapated.
